Did you ever try dry ice with alcohol? It’s something I was meaning to try but all my efforts went toward closed loop supercritical BHO.
To go beyond the hash threshold of extraction means some kind of solvent is needed, and supercritical (-190 f) is the surest way of leaving the wax behind for a more pure turpine extract. Just writhing this I can almost smell fresh shatter straight from the vacuum oven.
The nose never forgets…
Do you have pictures of an example of a good run using this method?
I’m familiar with the method, I’ve just not seen the results.
I’ve not tried the freezer method but I am familiar with it. I use my Magic Butter machine at 130°f for extraction after I decarboxylate in my Ardent NOVA FX. Then I evaporate the alcohol off at the lowest temp I can on the stove top. That takes about an hour. I really want a Source Turbo from ExactCraft. $600 is a little steep for me at the moment.
No, I don’t, but I can tell you it’s more brittle and clear. I’m revamping my extractor and adding condensers along with more capacity and a shatter platter for an easier time cleaning out the honeypot.
Great weed makes great shatter, crappy weed makes crappy shatter, its still all up the the grower.
Killing it brother
I’ve got some that don’t melt. I used another method of extraction. Instead of grain alcohol I infused it with butter and turned it to powder with tapioca maltodextrin. Not only do they not melt but they taste amazing! Problem solved.
I actually infused coco oil and used it but, powder, I’m definitely interested
I used dry ice with my last ethanol extraction to get really cold temps. I’m no expert, but I thought it worked pretty well.
If someone didn’t know it was in there, they probably couldn’t tell. They just taste like regular gummy bears really. No bitter aftertaste or anything.
This is very intriguing. Do tell…
I need that recipe. Sounds awesome. I didn’t get much of an aftertaste with mine either but, like I have said, I’m always interested in finding new ways. Knowledge is the one thing that can never be physically taken from you, unless by truth serum (sodium pentanol, I think that’s what it’s called)
@repins12 @Bubblehead my recipe makes over 400 gummy bears so you may want to scale it down. Unless of course you want over 400 bears. For the infusion I use 1oz. of flower. I decarboxylate and infuse it in 1 cup of butter. 1 cup of butter weighs 200g. So using the ratio 3/1 with the fat/powder I let the butter cool and mixed it with 66g. of tapioca maltodextrin. I then put it through a small screen.
Dry ingredients:
4 boxes of flavored gelatin (12oz. total.)
2 packs of kool aid to match your gelatin flavor
A pinch of citric acid if you want it sour
10 packs of unflavored gelatin (2.5oz. total)
Wet ingredients:
1 cup fruit juice(nothing citric)
1/4 cup honey
Mix dry ingredients. Mix wet ingredients and ad it to the dry ingredients. Let bloom. Put infused powder in skillet then add gummy ingredients and heat until everything is melted and put in molds. I like putting mine in the freezer.
Awesome. I will try this next time. Thanks
Thanks I’ll give it a try
Did u ever get your hard gummies I’m about to make some now but I thought it was the lecithen that stopped the melting because it makes the ingredients stick together better then the gelatin?
Yes I did. I completely changed my receipe too. I now use sugar, unflavored gelatin, and Kool-aid instead of flavored gelatin. I don’t use lethecin anymore either, it made them oily.
