Don’t do it @roaddog those driverless COB’s really are junk. Extremely inefficient.

@OldSkunk built a pretty extravagant light out of them. Had problems with keeping them cool and low performance. Eventually got into more quality cobs.

@dbrn32 Heat control seems to be the major deficit in their construction, but my son is urging me to try water cooling. That should be interesting on a high voltage, cheaply made product but more on that later. Also, I would hope the sellers understanding of opto-electronics is better than their command of the english language.

DIY driverless COBs test update

I’ve been running a test fixture with 110v AC 50watt full spectrum driverless COBs for about 10 weeks. I am working on a 800 watt light and I am learning what I need to build a reliable and cool light. [1507941851442-808664165] I bought predrilled heat sinks, so I’m stuck with them. How many of you growers are using driverless COBs

I’ve been using these cheap “full spectrum” Chinese driverless COBs for a while in a test setup. They don’t have the high intensity that the more expensive DC voltage COBs, but they can be moved closer to the plants without harming them. Surely I can’t be the only one using these. The only info I can find about them is they put out a good light spectrum for flowers.
