Hi, I only want to grow for edibles - do I still need to dry or cure after harvest before I can use it? Or, does potency change after drying and/or curing or is that all for benefit of smoke flavor? Thanks
I’d still dry to make the trichomes more brittle and easier to dissolve in your cooking fat of choice also your oil will get absorbed easier in dry plant matter but you can probably skip curing( though you might loose a little depth of high that you get from older cured pots from the thc breakdown)

The terpenes grow during curing. Giving your weed the flavors and smells that smell and taste great. But the Terps react to the HTC creating different types of highs. Which is why strains are different and do different things medically. But honestly love resin is a new fad that they make oil from fresh plants before they dry and cure. So I’m sure you can. But you’d have a better quality, in my opinion, if you dried and cured.

Although a lot of people use clippings which are dried and not cured to make edibles. So it’ll still work pretty much as long as you have a quality weed and decarb.

@Shaggy no worries - google figured it out lol. Sounds like it isn’t as potent but actually has solid flavor. Maybe typical route is what’s best…I’ll probably still give it a shot just out of curiosity

Experimenting is the best. Lol. Ever heard of the magic butter machine? I got the bundle. Totally worth it if you wanna make edibles. Amazing tech support. All sorts of recipes. You can make oils, butter, tinctures, all sorts with it. Its amazing.

I’ve heard of it, but haven’t decided to take plunge quite yet. I bought my seeds and haven’t even started to grow yet-just trying to think through everything before I get going. Lots to understand! I hadn’t thought about drying or curing yet so just started to wondering how important it actually was for THC
Typically with edibles you dont want the taste of pot anyway. So eliminating chlorophyll and most essential oils ie terpines would be ideal. The method depends on you skill level and equipment. Whether you choose solvent or solventless to make your concentrate. Medicine usually but not always, contains cbd and THCV or other specific cannabinoids that will still be present in mature green cannabis.
Personally I would cure my dope, even for edibles, to eliminate the chlorophyll if nothing else.

Ahhh very good to know cause I just didn’t have a clue what benefits/effects (if any) things like terpines could add. But sounds like none so that’s good.
Any downside to drying quickly in dehydrator? Again, just for edibles sake (I’m sure the smoke is nowhere is near as good).

The Terps change how your high will be, and how long it will last as well though. Pros and cons to everything. If you are doing edible. The magic butter machine is a must. And if you make the edibles right, it doesn’t matter how strong or how many Terps are in them. Usually only butter has a strong taste, but it’s not as good as coconut oil. And the coconut oil hides the taste more. It’s what most cannabis chefs use. Taste better and works great for all sorts off foods.

Man. So much to learn. I’m about to start planting, maybe I’ll just split the theoretical harvest into a bunch of different post-processing experiments and see which methods I like the best. And then I’m sure it’ll all change when I try my next strain or harvest process lol. I’m an engineer & statistician [who loves weed] and I can see this becoming an obsession. Sure it’s similar for everyone on this forum lol.
I’ve had good luck mixing cocoa butter or coconut oil with good dark chocolate. I’ll def start looking into the magic butter system tho

I’m working on an ak47 from here and a zkittles from here. Well, about to. Waiting on my ffof to come in. It’s become a hobby for me. But I’d love to have my own dispensary one day.

That’s the dream mate I’d love to open(or at least work at) a smoking lounge in michigan , thatd be the chillest funnest job imo (especially if you add an arcade room for the gamers)

Decarb it. I’d say yea. Might not be the most potent, but Its got some trichs, so yea.
I use stems and stuff and then decarb them and everyone loves my edibles.
I also add a little flower and distillate from the dispensary. Lol.

What do u mean by decarb it?
Decarboxylate. Its activating the thc so when you eat it you’ll get high.
