Need help with drying box setup

I have room above my 2x2 tent to add a drying chamber. I’m thinking I can add a cardboard box with a filtered intake at the bottom of the box and hook up an outlet with extra ducting to one of the ducting holes in the top of my tent. I do run my tent with a bottom vent open so it wouldn’t be the full strength suction my fan pulls. Is this a sound idea? Will it dry my plants too fast? I’m aiming to be able to do a perpetual grow and keep the smell to a minimum and still be able to do a proper dry. With the air flow being at the bottom of the box and not directly on the plants I’m hoping it’s the same as having a circulation fan at the bottom.

How hot of a temp is above your tent? You get to 70°or more from the inside light heat bleeding off above tent and your drying box might toast it down to crunchy hay in about 1.5days. Ask me how i know :upside_down_face:
However…If an a/c was blowing cold in to the filtered opening at say 60ish

My lung room sits at 67-70 degrees with an average humidity of 55-60%, there is about a 12 inch space between the top of my tent and the shelf the box will be sitting on so I don’t think I will get heat transfer from the light. I would like to be able to do a perpetual grow but if I can’t so be it, but for now I just need to dry this one plant while the other 3 finish.

Sounds ideal! You could put a moist Towel in there first handful of days to slow the dry from pouring chlorophyll… probably Keep a meter in there to be sure… I hate losing terps at this moment… So hard to recover later.

My main worry is the constant gentle breeze coming across the bottom of the box through the filtered intake will dry it too fast. I guess I could rig a damper to slow the breeze if needed if it’s too much. The important thing is the moving air in the box correct? This should keep mold from setting in in a closed box correct?

I would rather have the breeze and have it dry in 7 days than have stagnant air and a 10 day mold fest. :v:

My thoughts exactly.

Could put a false floor of cardboard inside it … Punch some small holes in that to get the upper Chamber atmosphere to swirl, but in a controlled manner.

Great idea!

Should work, as long as the heat rising from your tent, doesn’t cause issues.

@CLICKYBONES @Graysin @Newt here’s what I came up with. The intake hole in the right side has filter sponge in it to keep pet hair out and a flow directer to hopefully keep it flowing across the bottom of the box. The exhaust on the left side has 4” ducting with a damper so I can control the air flow and is connected to a extra port on my tent. I’m hoping I can control my dry speed by adjusting the the suction from the 4” pipe with the damper. I’m gonna run it for a few days with my temp/humidity meter in there before chop time. I think it just might work!

Looks like it should be great!

So far the box set up is holding steady at 73 degrees with 56% humidity.

That’s going to work nicely, if it stays there.

It’s Friday and it’s still holding at 72 degrees and 58% humidity.

The real test begins. Humidity got up in the mid 60’s today but we have rain in the forecast and it’s super sticky outside. I’ve been pretty impressed with this little box. It’s stayed pretty stable so far.

Welp…. It’s sitting at 70% humidity after a night of rain. I had to add a small battery powered fan in the bottom just to be on the safe side. It’s not blowing directly on the buds but it’s keeping the air circulating inside, crossing my fingers the humidity drops through out the day.

Did you do a peroxide dip prior to hanging?
Also, those leaves are perky… If you just cut, then yeah, 70% is gonna be the ambient inside the box first 24hrs…turn up your Incoming air until you see low 60 humidity
