My journal - first grow

i have lost most of my fan leaves on both my first two grows, but for different reasons. the first time i burned the heck out of the plants by giving too much nutes while i was using super soil. i wanted big luscious plants and paid the price for doing what i wanted, not what the plant wanted. my second grow i was growing blue dream which is a notorious nitrogen hog. because of my first grow i was going to make sure that i didn’t feed the blue dream nutes until it begged for them. of course i overdid it and lost most of my sun leaves on my plants a little after they were half way thru flowering. it made trimming them for harvest a lot easier but of course i was not happy. you should have yellow leaves on your flowering plants because the plant will use them to help build buds. even with the yellow leaves i still got 14 ounces from 5 plants in a 4x4x6 tent.

there are a couple different philosophies about pruning yellowed or “dead and dying” leaves. some believe that once most of the leaf has turned yellow it is better to take that leaf off than have the plant waste energy keeping it alive. it is better for the plant to put that effort into new leaves or buds. others say to leave them as the plant will use them to help build the buds. so take your pick.

hello @monkman thanks for the feedback. always appreciative. no yellow leaves yet. will be keeping an eye out for those. i’ve watched several video’s online and from what i can tell, most growers are removing the yellow leaves. and i’ll probably remove them. i want all the energy going to the buds. thanks for the heads up man. peace brotha! :+1: :v: :ok_hand: :stuck_out_tongue:

@dbrn32 tagging you in my thread. need your input on LED lighting please. from what i’m reading on various threads, HLG is the way to go. i was originally looking at the Mars-Hydro product line, the TSW or TSL 2000.

as far as tent sizes, i’ve been leaning towards the 3x3x6. i’m also considering the 4x2x6 tent. my grow space is limited in height, ceiling height being seven foot.

is there any other information you need please? any recommendations? thanks in advance. always appreciative

For either I would consider doing something with qb 120 or 132. Pretty easy build and comes in lower end for cost in that space. Either would be very diffuse light, so you could run them pretty close if need be. For a 3x3 you would build into a square, for 2x4 build into straight line.

@dbrn32 thanks for the input and advice. i’ll do my due diligence and research. from what i’m reading and my understanding, this is a self build on the lights, correct? as always, truly appreciative of your input & sharing of your knowledge and information. thanks man! peace :+1: :v: :ok_hand: :stuck_out_tongue:

Ya, I think @imSICKkid and @GreenJewels have both documented builds with them here. A few others too, just slips my mind.

@dbrn32 thank you. will give their threads a look at. see how they did it. i’ve also looked at the HLG website and i’ve found the qb 120 and 132 data and specs. reading up on that too. :+1: :v: :ok_hand:

Love my 120s in the 3k spectrum. If you need help on dimensions or the build I will gladly help as well. Super easy light to build and wire up.

@imSICKkid thanks man. just looking at your thread. the 3x6 tent. assuming you went with that size. also assuming you have a minimum of two 120s or do you have more than that? appreciate the feedback. i may be reaching out to you on the build of the lights and wiring. it doesn’t look complicated and i am handy. re-wired my house with a little bit of help from a more qualified individual. again, thanks man! :+1: :v: :ok_hand: :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not really anymore difficult than replacing cord on your vacuum cleaner once you have the correct components.

I run 4 of them in a 3x3x6 on an HLG 240H-c2100a driver.

Auto correct got me.

Ha, it happens all the time. That’s how you know you’re typing too many driver part numbers.

:joy: on my phone as soon as I type H in it’s ready to spell a driver

@GreenJewels thanks for posting on my thread. appreciate the picture of the lights. @dbrn32 suggested that i look at your thread for lighting, but i had no luck finding it yesterday, so really appreciative of you sharing your light build. if i may, what size tent do you have please? peace man :+1: :v: :ok_hand: :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a link to the first QB grow

But I needed a taller tent so the QB’S are in a 38×38x70 tent now :v::green_heart:

And here’s the point in my journal where I built it.
