Measuring TDS of run off

how important is it to measure the TDS of the run off water?
how much run off should i have, since i transplanted to the final 5 gal pots i really dont get much or any run off

im not using any synthetic fertilizer. im using organic dry amendments mixed in the soil

Runoff is very important, it gives you very valuable information like your PPM, and ph. However, if you just transplanted into your forever pot then you must wait for the roots to fill up the pot before you try to get runoff. If you water to runoff now you will overwater your plants.

Once your plants are big enough, you’ll want to get about 10% off runoff too test.

For what you are doing you are probably fine. I usually don’t unless I suspect a problem. I would however suggest you water to about 10% runoff simply to remove waste salts from your soil.

What may be more important would be a soil slurry test to determine the PH so that you can target your watering more closely to the correct PH.

Sorry @raustin: I stepped on you.

Good point. Until the canopy matches the pot size you really can’t water to runoff.
