A question from a fellow grower:
is it important to turn on the light for 24 hours?

It depends on what you are trying to do. 24 hours of light is very good for some autoflowering strains but is only good for the vegetative growth period in most strains. It can be very very important or not at all. Most strains are grown under about 18 hours of light with 6 hours of darkness for the vegetative season and then given the 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness for the flowering season.
I would have to say. Only for auto flowers.
No longer than 20 hours a day in veg for clones, and no more than 18 in veg for regular seeds.
Feminized seeds are susceptible to “hermie” traits, or becoming males if under too long a photo period; And, therefore should be grown under a shorter photo period 14-16 hours on.
I prefer 16/8 photo period for plants grown from seeds. I always get ahigher % of female plant with shorter photo period. Peace
