Hi everyone! I didn’t find any info, I’m guessing because most people are here for growing information. My apologies if this topic is outside of the topic of this overall site.
That being said, I’m very interested in making some Hash Rosin from my girls once they get harvested and I would like to use the “Ice Water” extraction, and then a Rosin press . I can watch YT videos all day, but I’d like to get some opinions on if anyone is doing that here. If you are, what gear are you using? Links or full product names, please, along with any personal experiences from going through it.
I’m sure I will, lol, there is a lot of information here
Specifically, I am looking for info surrounding Ice Water extraction and a Rosin press, but I don’t know why. I know that sounds dumb, but I’ve been watching a couple of guys on YT who’ve made Rosin from a Rosin Evolution press. But, man, I really don’t want to drop $1500 on a full setup if it’s not worth it. It just seems that this extraction method is very good and generally yields pretty high returns. While I love smokin bud, my lungs don’t so much. So, if I can get the same effects without smoking so much material, I’m sure my lungs would feel better. I don’t mind eating edibles, but my fav is to just smoke.
Ice water hash is a PIA to make rosin with and will sometimes mold if not dried correctly. Which unless you have a freeze dryer @3k is a ton of work. A better option IMO is dry ice hash. There are a bunch of videos on how to do that. It doesn’t need dried just cured.
If you’re not pressing for the masses get an electric press I have a 4 ton presso pro they’re about $400. Can press 4 grams of dry ice hash at a time with good results.
If your lungs hurt smoking"same here" try infusions. A levo2 or similar machine will infuse honey/oils for edibles. Honey straight to coffee. Oils for cookies/cakes or just aboit ANYTHING. Just a thought. Get more thc per ounce. Longer duration medical results…etc.
I press and enjoy it alot. @JJ520@plumbdand@Deez all are great pressers 2. Hit us up if u got any questions. I have a youtube tutorial on how i press. These guys i tagged r pros compared to me and also do bubble hash
I never freeze after harvest always cure first. I do that because I press sometimes full plants that I consider sub standard for smoking. If it’s larfy, has a seed or 2, don’t love the taste etc…
I never know in advance.
Smoking flower is my preference I only press so I don’t waste.
Wow, did I get down a rabbit hole I wasn’t expecting…
So, after reading many threads here and some of the other links from @Docnraq , @BigItch , @Storm and @SilvaBack203 (Thank you so much!), I actually think I’m changing my direction…
I actually like the Idea of the dry ice extraction better than the ice water extraction. I think what might seal the deal for me is what I can do with my herb material after either, A. Ice Water, or B. Dry Ice, extraction methods. I have a feeling that getting weed all wet and then trying to dry it out in order to press it would be next to impossible. Can you still press weed after dry ice extraction? Is there a point? Just trying to use as much of the plant as possible before throwing my hands up and saying, “Ehhh, just throw it in the garbage, it’s done for.”
I love the idea of the infusions, @Storm , I didn’t even know that kind of machine existed, but now I want one! LOL
And thanks @BigItch for the tip on Dry Ice Extraction and the Presso Pro. Looks like lot higher yeilds and way cheaper than the Low Temp Rosin Press machine I was looking at.
So you are not actually pressing the weed it self. Once washed it becomes vasura… the ice removes all the trichomes from the plant making hash. You need micron bags to catch the particles. The hash will be the material you pressed onced dried
I strongly disagree and any experinced hash maker or rosin maker would also disagree.
The problem with dry ice hash is it makes the material to cold and brittle, which makes hash that ends up with plant material contaminates.
Everyone has a method that works for them and their own opinions, I respect that. I just want to point out that any rosin forum or hash form would yell in caps at anyone recommending dry ice hash.
Water hash will always produce the best hash, a freeze dryer is not needed. A pizza box and a fridge or a room that’s low in humidity will work fine, line the pizza box with parchment paper and use a sifter.
However for those that don’t want to put the work in the recommendation of experienced hash makers/rosin makers is to sift dry bud with a simple flour sifter.
The cold water and friction is used to pull the tricombs off, it ends up with a very very clean product. The weed is junk after because it’s just a wet plant at that point with so little thc its thrown out.
The water hash is like a paste, of golden or brown color depending on amount of mature tricombs. The hash is put on a micron screen Ontop of paper towel or a dry cloth, placed in a freezer to freeze fully, then sifted with the sifter onto the drying surface (pizza box with parchment paper) and put in a low humidity environment.
In a fridge it will stay more golden color, in a dry room it will oxadize and go brown but is still amazing.
For more terps and half the yeild the plant if frozen eight after being chopped down (no drying period) put Ina freezer bag (grovebag) and after completely frozen it is ice water hashed and the process above is followed. Terps will be CRAZY LOUD and if the plant was harvested early enough it will be golden… However yeild is MASSIVELY REDUCED!!
lots of people do things lots of different ways but hash is not new and muli million dollar facilities are making rosin, as are very experienced professionals that were black market for a very long time.
This is not new technology it’s all been tried and its all been compared in multiple different ways.
No one is doing dry ice in a professional environment for a reason.
This is what I don’t like about ice water hash. I’ve done that with pizza boxes spread all over a room waiting for it to dry. Makes a mess, takes what seems forever and you have to dedicate a whole area to it.
I’m not trying to be a hash expert or even do anything more.
I prefer it to be easy because I’m pressing for me only. I would rather smoke flower but don’t like to waste what I’ve grown. I also use my press bags for edibles after.
Heck, I disagree and I’m certainly no expert… I actually love making ice-water hash! It’s fun and rewarding and hubby really, really loves the end product
