Topping Marijuana Guide

Topping is one of the most commonly used training techniques and one that is talked
about all the time amongst marijuana growers.

While Topping is a simple and effective way to increase yields, there are other
training techniques that are also useful:
•Fimming – An extreme take on Topping, Fimming can quickly multiply your heads
from 1 to 4 and boost bud production.
•Low Stress Training (LST) – A technique which relies on Topping coupled with
stressing the plants, LST increases the amount of flower sites and the amount of
light that reaches your plants.
•Lollipopping – By pruning the lower leaves and branches you create a pleasing
shape while concentrating each plants energy into its upper, flower bearing region.
•Super Cropping – Boost lateral growth and bud production by gently stressing each plant.
•Monster Cropping – A new concept which works best with Sea of Green and Screen of
Green set-ups, Monster Cropping will create multiple heads on each plant.
How does Topping Work?
Topping involves the removal of the growing tip of your plants. This causes the growing
tip to split and form two main kolas instead of one. With multiple topping it is possible
to turn your two heads into four, four into eight, and so on.

Not only does topping your plant create more than one main kola. It also promotes
the growth of all the lower branches and vegetation.

Just topping your plant once will turn it into a much bushier shape. With multiple
topping in effect what you are doing is reversing the natural Christmas tree shape
of the plant. It becomes an upside down Christmas tree with most of the growth at
the top of the plant, closer to the light source.

Topping is also important in managing plant height. Once topped, plants will not
reach their maximum height but rather fill out more sideways. If the vertical grow
space that you have available is limited then topping can help you keep tall leggy
plants, like the Hazes, under control.

Topping is also known as ‘pinching out’. This is because many growers do it by pinching
out the growing tip between their thumb and forefinger. We always recommend removing
the tip with clean, sterilized scissors or a sharp blade.

•Select the plant stem, just below the growing tip;
•Make a clean cut just above the lower internode;
•Allow at least one internode to form before topping again.

It really is as simple as that. There are very few circumstances under which topping
your marijuana does not result in a bigger yield.

I’m getting ready to top. No pic due to location stamp. GG fems are starting to smell.
These ILGM seeds are the best. First indoor grow and all is perfect because I’m making it that way. ILGM Info is very valuable and keeps me in the know. I am an avid gardener.

@garrigan62 Is there a certain growth time frame? By that I mean can I top the 15th node without issue, or should it be topped, at say the 7th node? I topped at the 7th - newest growth, but I nicked off the 6th at the same time - very dense trying to get it to spread out. LST I’m near future.
