Hi, new to posting but I read the post here at times to learn about growing. have gotten lots of info from reading the post .
I am wondering if someone can help with an issue with one of my plants.
I have a Green Crack fem that is about 26 days old and 12 in high with 5 sets of true leaves, she is in Pro Mix organic soil,
just started giving nutrients, I am using Emerald Harvest 3 part at seedling strength.
lighting is 18/6 and temps are 75f in the day and 64f at night,
she is in a 4X2 grow tent. I had her under a 300 watt Mars hydro led (wattage at wall about 110) light was about 24" above the plant.
I am using tap water left out for 2 days and at 6.5 ph.
leaves are very coarse and have light areas between the veins.
new growth is coming out very light green, as leaves age the stripes become dead areas . have added some pictures any help would be great .
Transplant to a larger container. What’s your nutrient schedule?
I would raise the light another 4-6” some of that looks like light burn.
Welcome to ILGM.
thanks for the welcome and the reply, dumped her out of the pot and have lots of roots so I am putting her in a 4 gallon pot later today,
have changed the light to a 150 watt hps at about 30 inches above plant, will try to get more space.
just started nutrients but was going to feed about once a week.
last feeding was very mild as it was her first one. thanks for the advice.
Sometimes you will see light green growth a the tops of your plants. Most of the time it’s the plants having a growth spurt and the chlorophyll has to have time to catch up to the new growth. Most growers like seeing that lime green growth because it’s the plant growing at a more rapid pace. Do you have a fan directly blowing at the plant?
I don’t have a fan in the tent, i was wondering if that could have something to do with the rough leaves (no air circulating), they look raised up between the leaf veins …
looking down on the leaves they look like they have sergeant stripes
like on a uniform (alternating light and dark)and the raised parts are a light green.
older leaves seem to be dying and have brownish patches.
even the small new leaves have very rough surface.
will plant in 4 gallon pot today and see if fresh soil helps .
thanks for the reply
Looks way over fertilized and going into nitrogen toxicity. I’m assuming that the pro mix organic is one of those soils that “feed your plants for 3 months”. In which case you should not be adding any nutes at all because the soil already has too much in it. I’d transplant into some better soil for our plants, like Fox Farms Happy Frog.
have used the soil for several other plants without any trouble, it does come with some fertilizer and maybe I put this plant into it too early,
will try to get some happy frog but most places are closed because of the
covid-19, mainly grocery stores and gas stations open, have some seed starting mix so I may use that and see how she does. thanks for the help
Pro mix organic should be fine for your plant. And there shouldn’t be nutrients in it. I’ve just started using it based on advice from @ThcinKC. I have read about lowing the ph a bit, more like 6.0-6.2 but ThcInKc says he runs his at 6.5 And he is a very successful grower
Treat pro mix as a soilless medium
what? i thought promix organic had nothing in it! if it does then i will probably be killing all my plants dang it
I’ve look at the ingredients on the bag and on line. No nutes in it!
Promix makes many types of potting soil, some have ferts in them, some don’t.
thats a good thing because i read the same stuff and i have been pushing the nutes and cal mag pretty hard lol
Depends on which Promix you get, this one is loaded with nutes:

I just gave my newest seedlings a touch of nutes last night and they’re loving it. And the older seedlings have been getting nutes in the pro mix. That’s what saved them. Growing good now. A couple still need a little nitrogen so they’ll get more tomorrow
Depending on the ProMix that is being used it will come with some light nutrients in them but most have none. I like it that way because it gives me a clean slate to play with as far as nutrients go.
That version of Promix is fine, it’s the organic veg and herb version that has a lot of nutes (nitrogen in particular).
Yeah, I don’t even use Fox Farms Ocean Forest any longer as I prefer to use my fertilizers instead of buying a soil with it already nuted for me, more control.
@AfgVet , @Hellraiser and @Bubblehead , sorry my fault I should have specified Pro Mix vegetable and herb mix. I have used this soil for 4 grows and had good results. I use it as a soilless grow and the only issue I had was a low drainage ph. usually put small plants into it when they have 4 or 5 sets of leaves .have not had any issues before .
here is a pic of the description on back of bag
Yes, that’s what I suspected cause your plants look very fertilized, just stop adding nutes and you may be fine as the plant toughens up to it. But I don’t like the look of your lower leaves, something else is also causing problems as well.
