Light Burn? Looks like she was in a deep fryer

When she first went into flowering, I noticed brown spots start to form. Checked my runoff PH, thought it was a nute lockout. Nope, PH was perfect at 6.8. I have a supersoil which claims I only needed water. So, I started adding calmag. No difference. It’s getting worse.

Finally, after doing research I realized it’s probably light burn. I cannot raise my light any higher and this plant is so thick that bending her at this point is near impossible without snapping something. Last night I turned the power on the light down from 100% to 85% on both the veg and flowering side.

Do you think that will help? I’m guessing I’m still about 3 weeks or so from harvest. (she has many more amber pistils now, this pic was older)

Input? Thanks guys and gals!

PS - Yes, I know, blurple lights suck to diagnose anything. I’ll try and get another pic in natural light once I’m home later.

How about a picture in white light. Can’t see anything under the blurple.

Yep, like I mentioned, I’ll have to get those later. Not at home now but thank you for the reply!

Here are some pics in normal light. Sorry for the blurple and I appreciate any help.

@Myfriendis410 – Any thoughts now that there are better photos?

Try turning on your flash for your photo. They say that’s one of the biggest issues with the blurple lights.
No Green light to see deficiencies and pests. Plants also use it because it penetrates the top canopy so the lower leaves contribute to the production of chlorophyll.

I was wondering how to get a shot of the tent with that blurple in there. I will try that, thank you!

Based on the photos in white lighting of the actual plant, what do you think the issue is? Am I correct in guessing it’s light burn? @LateNightGardner

Also, thank you for the reply!

I noticed some fox tailing which is a sign of the light to close. If your light has both veg and flower switches, I would turn the veg light off. :love_you_gesture:

@OGIncognito Thank you so much for the reply! I had turned both the ‘bloom’ and veg’ down to 75% from 100%. So you think I should turn the veg to zero and the bloom back to 100%?

My light won’t go any higher in the tent so not much I can do there and my plant is on like a half inch stand so I can’t really lower the plant itself either. (as I mentioned above, she’s too far along to bend over. too thick. so that’s out too)

Thanks again for the reply. Really appreciate it.

I ran a blurple for a few grows and used both lights, really didn’t notice any improvement running both during flower. I would dial it way back at a minimum, at week 5-6 you may have a little vertical growth left :love_you_gesture:

@OGIncognito I’m sorry, just so I understand correctly, I should put the veg to 0% and dial the bloom back? If so, to like 50%?

You’re right, I haven’t seen much vertical growth in a while. I’m guessing because the light was so strong it didn’t need to grow towards it?

I would put the veg at 0 and play with the flower switch, she’ll need the intensity to fatten up which should start about now through week 8 or harvest time. Maybe try 80% for a day or 2 and look for any new white hairs forming, (fox tails) and really nothing wrong with that, I get it occasionally and sometimes will snip them off. that’ll let you know that it’s too intense seeing as we know it’s too close. :love_you_gesture:

Thank you so much for getting back to me. This is my first grow with blurple. My first grow left me with light and airy buds with a pitiful yield. Trying to prove to the wife I can do this lol. Trying not to F this one up too. I thought the new white hairs coming up was just her doing her thing.

Anyway, thank you again @OGIncognito

There is no way he’s overdoing the light with that set at 40% and 4 feet above. My diy lights (Samsung diodes) currently is resting at 80% and 5 inches from canopy.

Foxtails can be brought on by light intensity but also is a sign plant is done.

You are suffering from nute excess and deficiencies. N toxicity, possible nutrient excess (a flush with a sample of PH and TDS would be good). Possible P def and Mg def.

Leaves on plant will not recover. I’m thinking your supersoil was too hot for the plant. Again; a flush with data on TDS and PH would tell you what you need to know.

Thank you for the reply!

I’m actually about 21" above canopy. I also had both the veg and bloom set to 100% until 2 days ago. So he’s probably right

When I saw the signs originally, I thought deficiency. I’ve been giving cal mag with every watering now (once every 2 days or so) Doesn’t seem to have helped. I have runoff waiting at home that I need to soak up, so I will test the PH and TDS before I do so.

Again, thanks for the reply! @Myfriendis410

Brother I have made every mistake possible. I grow both photos and autos and have abutting load of auto beans. Several great growers on here coached me through and still helping. Have you learned LST, as I. Topping or fimming, tieing down the main and side branches. This technique will expose the underlying bud sites increasing your yield. It’s a routine practice through your grow. You tie a branch down and she’ll turn up past the tie down and reach for the light. You keep this up and you start noticing bud sites that would have been hidden if the plant was to grow 1 main vertical. Here’s an early pic, notice one of my many mistakes…snapped the top off during LST. She was topped to close to the main, remember to leave a stub above your topping if you decide later to go that rought :love_you_gesture:

Thank you again for helping me out @OGIncognito! Yes, I know all about LST and LST’d the hell out of my last grow. This plant however, was started in this tent and for whatever reason grew VERY thick and short. Before I knew it, she was just too thick to bend over. Oddly enough, it’s a fairly even canopy even though I didn’t do anything to her whatsoever haha. In my other tent, I have a 2 week old jack 47 that I just started the LST process of. I found plastic 90 degree plant benders on amazon so I’m trying those out. Sorry for the crappy photo. Screen shot off my phone from my security cam I have in there.

Just called the wife and had her turn off the veg light. Hopefully that helps.

I promise, last question for you – Do I now wait until those new white hairs turn amber and recede or should I start looking at the trichs now? I thought I had maybe 3 weeks to a month left but now I’m worried I’ll let her go too far based on what @Myfriendis410 said that she might be close to done but just has 9000 deficiencies lol.
