Let's talk DIY lights

Happy anniversary @Myfriendis410!

@kabongster yes we are absolutely waiting for them, impatiently too!

@AAA boards and heatsinks need to come from hlg or supplier. The driver you can get a lot of places, arrow electronics is usually my first stop. The aluminum I would probably source locally or from a vendor like grainge. And the rest of the stuff can be purchased on Amazon pretty cheap.

@dbrn32 Okay so I was sent to you with my lighting issue, clearly you’re the man by the judge of this post. I’m on my first grow, DWC in a 3x3x6. Thinking to switch to a 4x4 and RDWC next grow.

I bought this light that I’ve been using which I now see is crap because Amazon  Amazon.com

Sigh and I just need general help… I’m being recommended the quantum LED boards but I have no clue how to even start all that or build lights? I just want to hang something up call it a day haha. I’m going to need some “mansplaining”

I was told I can buy another one of these but that’s just not good if I want to ever upgrade…

If you want qb’s and not have to mess with it, go to growerslights. They offer assembly and testing on all qb lights prior to shipping for small fee. In a 3x3, you want one of the kits they list at “xw”. The 260 is pretty good light in that space.

And if I want to move to a 4x4, should I get 2 or a different kind?

Is it 260w per board? Since there are two boards on it?

Ya. I would do two of the 260 xl kits for a 4x4.

What would one 320 XW be good for?

Not a 4x4 to flower in alone. Some would run that in 3x3, but it’s a little more light than needed and less efficient than 260 kit.

I was about the same way as you posted not even two weeks ago. You can buy the kits and have them put together but it’s really not as hard as it seems. I put this light together pretty easy! Just started it yesterday.

I just want to be able to yield an lb, if that’s possible in a 3x3 by doing one of the 260 xw, I won’t need to upgrade but instead change to RDWC and SOG two plants

3,000K would probably be ideal @dbrn32? (I sent the OP over here lol)

Two plants in a 3x3 wouldn’t really be considered sog. 3x3 is tough to get a pound in too. I wouldn’t say impossible, but not common. If you need a pound per harvest 4x4 may ne better option.

Gotcha, looks like I’m upping to a 4x4 then! Thanks for your help on the lighting issue. Now just to beg my husband for more money so I can really get this going :money_mouth_face:

But you are growing for your husband, so no problem. Quantum lights and a bigger tent, great investment :+1:

Looks great! I just started with my quantum boards and the best thing I’ve made for my tent. It’s unreal the amount of light they put out with almost no heat!

I’m doing the same growing for medicinal reasons, it’s amazing how mich this can actually help someone. I broke almost all the bones on my right side of my body and spent years in a hospital. Pain was daily, I swore off painkillers as I knew it wouldn’t get better with them. Was always in a job where I couldn’t use it. Tried it again after years and now I can say I am pain free. 100% changed my life
