Hey Y’all…I’m curious as to what the community thinks on this: I have a seedling that’s a Photo that I am planning on potting soon…I know its late in the season and I know the plant will be a lot smaller ( Thats what I actually want) …I usually grow Autos ( I have my second batch growing now ) and usually plant 1 photo each year…This year I got a late start…Its in a solo now and is only about 3 inches tall from 7/2/23…
My question is since its late in the season and since it wont be that big…Should I plant it in a 5 gallon or a 10 gallon fabric pot?
Thanks…
5 or even 3, kinda depends on your growing season
Thansk @Pinboy … My climate is closer to Mediterranean, sometimes its still warm to mild in October…
3 or 5 would be sufficient.
I’m gonna venture to say I’d go as big a container as you have available for one reason. It can never be too big. Give her every opportunity to stretch her toes as far as she can reasonably do in the next few weeks. If she’s seeing the sun every day then she’s already about to throw out preflower. Soils recyclable so there’s no worry of waste.
I agree with using a 10 gallon.I took some clones in late June and put them in dirt(with some amendments).there are now 3’ tall in less than a month.
It’s my first clone adventure. So far so good.Just hoping Mother Nature cooperates this fall.
All my girls are at the start of flowering except the clones.Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m sure they with flower. As the days get shorter the magic happens.
I’d go for 10 gallon if you have the soil to spare. I started a northern lights one year at the end of July in smaller pot and the roots were starting to get restricted by the size. This is what it looked like by mid to late sept.
So you basically got about 12 weeks to work with 5 gallon will be fine. Good luck
Thanks to all that responded so far…
Its still in a solo… about to pot it any day now … I think I’m gonna try the 10…
I have a bigger pot from last year or the last last…I forgot It was used for my last Romulan photo I think it was a 45 g ? Its huge and HEAVY…The plant was planted on time but was about 6+feet tall…obviously I’m not gonna use that this late…
Thanks all…Lets see what happens…?
@Naturalmedsman Hey if mine gets that tall Ill be happy!!
This is what she looks like
*Those second single blade leaves are weird?
Is she a little small for being solo cupped 7/2 ?..Or am I just used to fast Autos…
She looks scrawny to me… What do you Photo growers think?
I would use a 3. Bigger and the plant will spend too much time growing roots instead of growing upwards. This late in the game for me in missouri i might even go w 1 gallon
It does look small for that much time. These are how mine looked 3 weeks from sprouting. Usually they start taking off after the 3rd or 4th set of leaves.
Yeah Big difference…Those look healthy…Did you have them out in the sun after Germ…or under big lights…I just use T-5 grow lights after Germ til about 2 or 3 weeks with my Autos.
I had them under a T5 and when the weather cooperated I stuck them outside on my stoop to get sunlight. Did that for about 2 weeks and then left them outside permanently. Used seedling starter soil on top and coast of maine stonington on the bottom of those pots. Didn’t do much else. Might be the genetics on that seed keeping it small?
Yeah somethings not right ! Maybe a bad seed …Maybe shell be a late bloomer… Actually she IS… But Ive already gone this far…and since its a kinda experiment I’m gonna let `er rip and see what happens…I just potted her today in a 10g fab pot…
