Lake water or No?

I am starting a new indoor grow, 2 plants(one hydro/one soil). I live on a lake and all of my past hydro grows I have used filtered water which can sometimes be a pain. Is there any benefit or detriment to using water from the lake as long as it is pH’d properly? I think it would be OK in soil but not so much in hydro. Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Well if people run boats and anything else that can contaminate the water, could possibly cause problems. Collect rain water…:+1:

Depends on the lake? It may not be PH that is your issue, could be high starting EC due to excess mineral content like calcium or iron or any other mineral? That creates headroom issues along build up of unused salts.

I would be concerned about undesired dissolved solids, undesirable microbes, and the potential for pests.

Make your own lake water

A 500 gallon tanks with 12 tilapia in it will grow some plants really well
