Ok, day 17 on the first set of clones. I have had then under dome, been expelling co2 into containers before covering, spraying leaves periodically and just recently let the soil get a bit drier and gave them their first soil watering last night. My question is, is it too early to give them a few hours, 1/2 day of direct light completely exposed and then dome them again?
they r not looking good,
read up on cloning methods, u want them to root in 2 wks or less,
find a method that u can do and keep at it until they r rooting in 10 days.!!
i now use rock wool, liquid karma, dome, heating mat, and QB light 48" away,
this is what mine look like in 10-11 days, with 100% success rate…
sorry about the chitty pics, spent all my money on grow lights.!
Thanks for the feedback! I will be putting a warming mat under the second set that I took on February 13th. I used rooting powder on both batches. Looking back I think I should have limited the light a bit on the original 3 and utilized a warming mat. Not quite ready to discard them yet as I do see new growth…time will tell
Will reducing the light help them root faster??
Based upon what I’ve read now, it acts a a period of rest. Too much light and the little guys spend a lot of time through photosynthesis, trying to grow foliage instead of producing roots.
the trick is the proper amount of low lighting,
u want just enough to keep em green,
like Gazelle said…
too much light and they try to grow, but have no roots to supply nutrients.!!
cloning is not extremely hard, but u have to find a good method and stick with it.!
AskEd on the coco sticky threads @ GrassCity has a very simple cloning method that requires no dome or heat mat, he claims to have 100% success in 2 weeks using straight coco coir.!
@SlowOldGuy maybe u can help with this, why do my clones look like this for roots
I am around 14-16 days ruffly and the tops look like this
They r getting new growth starting now but why do they turn so brown like this?
I keep temps at 77-80, R/H 60-80%
Keep water at about 900ppm f
And 5.8 for ph. Not sure why thus happens whenever I clone
this is the problem, u r feeding them at 1.8 EC,
my flowering fert is 1.6 EC, my heaviest feeding plants barely get 1.8 or more.!
u should be at 0.2-0.5 EC for clippings.!!
try some RO water with a tiny amount of grow fert’s, very tiny amount,
i use Botanicare Liquid Karma (0.1-0.1-0.5 NPK) at 1/2 strength (2-3 ml/L)
when they get roots i plant em and they get 1/2 strength grow fert.!
I was only using Pro mix rooting juice but it was only about 3 days ago I added nutes to 900ppm thinkin maybe they r hungry but so far no change other than noticing new growth. I usually do have atleast 90% success with clones but I always get this happening to them. Tried so many different things lol but they DO pull thru and end up being beautiful plants but damn, I feel like this thing that happens puts me behind. I see other clones at 10 or more days with roots and they are lighter in colour but not brown like mine go thru I will change water tonight and as you said, I will drop my nute way down and go from there
Thanks @SlowOldGuy
Do you guys pH your cloner water??
Try lowering the water level a little so the roots can feel the water and moisture from the air stones or sprayer which ever you are using and have to try reaching for the water. And def less nutes
Should have read the “Bible” before I tried to clone, was not wise to use potting soil to clone. Also should have used heating mat. Lesson learned. Lol
Great news! Clones started Thursday and some already are getting bumps on the stem.
Update on first and second attempt at cloning.
Thanks to @SlowOldGuy - ILGM forums and posters of related subjects! Only managed to get one from the original attempt But had 100% success on the second. I was able to select the best ones for transplant this time. Just put them back into my original grow space and added an additional set of 4 foot fluorescents which seems to keep it right at 70 degrees. Lessons were definitely learned! This time
wow, what an ‘over-night’ improvement, f yeah.!
very nice looking clones.!!!
Thanks! I’m really digging this whole experience. I’m also glad that my first grow ended up with only 2 of my 9 seeds germinating. I think everyone who wants to try their hand at “growing” should start out with one plant, I’m finding it much easier to learn and implement corrective measures. Based upon many of the posts I have read, it seems like many opt to go all in with hydroponics, special set ups, advanced use of chemicals i.e. ph up, ph down etc.
It was touch and go for a bit but it now looks as if we are out of the woods. I now have 5 viable clones for my next grow!
