Just starting to plan

Hello everyone!

My wife and I have decided its time to start growing our own stuff! We are in the early stages and are trying to plan stuff out, and have a couple of questions. We are going to be using a 4x4x7.5 grow tent in our spare room. The stuff we have decided on so far is:

VIVOSUN 48"x48"x80" Mylar Grow Tent
VIVOHOME 6 Inch 395 CFM Black Round Exhaust Inline Fan with a VIVOSUN 6 Inch Air Carbon Filter. (Will this be ok?) We will be blowing the hot air out our window.
The big thing we can’t decide on is lights. We know we want to use LED, but with so many different options we dont know what way to go. So any tips on that would be greatly appreciated!
We are going to try and do 4 plants. We will be using soil in the fabric pots. I know we will need a ph test kit and nutrients.
That is pretty much how far we have gotten. Lol this is the first year trying to grow indoor. We grew outdoors for the first time last year and did ok, but wanted more control this year.

Thank you so much for any information!

For LEDs, lots of people here love their HLG 260XL’s, 2 of them would light a 4x4 nicely for about $700. All depends on your budget, many options. Stay away from blurples.

Thanks so much for the reply. Thats what I was originally going to buy, some blurples then started to do more research. Thats when I started to get a little undecided. I know lights are important so i want to make the right choice. I will bring up the HLG to my wife tomorrow morning and see what she thinks. I started to look into Mars Hydro. Any experience with them?

While Mars Hydro is starting to make some decent lights with their TS series, their info and marketing BS leaves a bad taste in the mouth, take the TS-3000W for example, they want you to think that it’s a 3000 watt light when it no where near that, it’s a 450 watt light, why not just say that. That’s their top of the line for $520 and it wouldn’t light your tent as well as the pair of HLG’s for just a little more, and better components.

You can build an hlg to flower a 4x4x80 with;

2x (8 boards in total)

2x

1x

1x

2x

The only thing else you need is
8x
1"x1"x1/8" 3 foot long aluminum angle

Nut and bolt kit

Self tapers

I just did it and it cost me about $500

@Hellraiser I wonder why they are allowed to market like that. Sire seems confusing. Makes it harder for people like me who are just starting. Thank you so much for the advice.

@RandomlyRan Is it hard to bulid? I have never done anything like that. That seems like a really good deal.

No it’s really easy. I can walk you thru it.

So easy to build even a CaveMan can do it !!!

Yeah cheezy but it explains how easy hlg lights are to build. And by far the best light on the market.

Use 2 hlg260xl rspec kits for a 4x4 tent. You will be extremely happy

I run 2 HLG 260xl rspec lights in my 4x4x80” grow tent. Sure they are expensive but well worth it. Here is an example of how good their lights are.

If you live in a colder climate you might give MH/HPS or CMH another look. If you do live in a warm climate then LED’s are the way to go.

Many of us have been burned by these Amazon blurple lights. Deceptive marketing and Amazon allows it. That ought to say something about Amazon lol.

The thing about lights is it’s the engine that drives your plant. All other processes follow from that light. Inadequate light means that nutrient transport is reduced, sugar production goes down, plants develop issues due to poor health etc. You CAN grow using those China lights but it’s nearly twice as expensive to run as the latest tech. I built a diy setup and my electric bill went down $60 the first month. I would rather pay once up front than deal with an ongoing outflow of money.

@Travis23 They are worth it. I’m growing for myself and two others so this light upgrades ensure I have enough. :+1:

@RandomlyRan @BetrayedSoul @Travis23 Hey guys, I was reading random post and bought parts for one light. Mind if I tag along? Thanks so much…

Sounds good. My wife is a bee keeper lol

Cool gotta love em!!!

Sorry guys ran out of replys. @Myfriendis410 I did not even think of that. I live in Vermont so we get all 4 season. Im glad I came here first to ask questions about lights. I am thinking we are probably going to go with the HLG 260xl based off what is being said! Thank you all for the information. We appreciate it.

@MrPeat sure seems to be worth it. Do you mind if i ask what you are running for an exhaust set up? Will the ones we picked be ok?

@BeeKeeper2 Not at all man!

@Travis23 I don’t use one. The AC doesn’t cool the room down so wide open.

I have a fan on top which helps suck the heat iut. A small fan that sits on the aluminum heatsinks. Then a big box fan with a window ac unit.

@MrPeat Nice. We have central air that should help with the temp of the room that the tent is going to be in. We willl be blowing the hot air out the window. We will have to do some test runs for temp and humidity before we put the plants in.
