If it’s a wwa, you probably will have them. I’ve had them on everyone I’ve grown and have seen quite a few others with the same problem

Usually it’s some form of stress. Heat, light , nutrient excess/deficiency, ph fluctuations etc.
or just plain old genetic quirk like @HornHead mentioned. I read something about back building by cutting the fox tail down but not to sure on that procedure

Exactly as you said. Cut at base of foxtail and they tend to grow bulbous

What is this foxtail you talking about? Here in ky. It is a grassy weed.
