Is it ok to use baking soda temporarily for pH up

Waiting on my pH Up to arrive but in the meantime I need my pH to be up from 4.9. Will baking soda work for this?

Lye works but honestly go to a pet store they sell ph up for fish tanks

Yes but don’t apply it directly. Mix it with your water and test until the pH is above 7. Then use the water to raise the soil pH. There will be a residue in your watering can that you should clean out and start fresh if you need to do this more than once.
The problem with liquid fixes is that they go straight to the roots and can shock the plant. I prefer to mix some crushed oyster shell or coarse calcium carbonate in my mix before planting. This seems to act as a buffer over time rather hitting them hard all at once. :alien:

BTW - organic gardeners also use diluted white vinegar mixed in water to adjust pH down the same way. Better to invest in quality test kits and do it often than over priced chemicals to do the same job.

I use citric acid crystals for up, and potassium bicarbonate for down.
