Hi guys i have a question for all of you and i want ur honest feed back now i have a regular autoflower plant ive sprayed the top half with sts spray and im going to let it self pollenate its self is this ok to do this ive read that u can do this with no problem and bill ward has done it so whats your feed back guys
I’ve only heard of growers collecting the male pollen from the plant that was sprayed and then using that male pollen to pollinate a different female plant.
See ive read its ok to do it the way im doing it but its not common practice apparently
Has the auto reg showed sex or starting preflower? Spray at 1st sign of flower and continue for several weeks. Seed produced should be a mix of fem and reg seeing as the mother was a regular….if that’s the question you were asking. @AfgVet has done some breeding
My very first auto a few years back I tried something similar. I took a couple clones right away and once they rooted, sprayed them with STS. Everything went as planned, except nothing ever came of it. I collected pollen, mixed with lightly roasted (fully dried) flour, and pollinated another auto the next grow. Nothing.
I also got 4 seeds from self pollination (they were autos and still flowered out some pistils). They looked like really good seeds, but none of them ever germinated. I’m sure I did something wrong, so hopefully you’ll have better luck.
Oh, I’ve hand pollinated cucumbers before with my indoor hydro, so the actual pollinating part of my experiment at least I’m pretty sure I did right.
That’s the way it works in nature. Except autos aren’t natural lol. Only way to find out……go for it!
Could we purchase pollen online ?
I don’t know if you’ll have enough time for seeds to ripen that way. @repins12 breeds autos masterfully… see what he thinks
Yah its just showed sex a few days back ive sprayed the top half once so far how many times do i have to spray it
Not for this strain u wouldnt be able to get pollen its from a aussie breeder and if i could get pollen people want insane money for it for one ml
Seems like you could shop for pollen similar to the way we shop for seeds, by strain. I picture it as a little sock like plastic bag with the pollen inside. Slide it over a bud site and you would not effect the entire plant. Just me thinking out loud.
I’m no way the duty expert on this Growmie, it’s a plan of mine and have been doing a lot of research. Here’s a quick easy guide I found on STS. The rabbit hole goes deeper with pheno hunting to weed out genetic defects, reversed breeding and a lot of other interesting research I’ve found. @repins12 is a great source of info but under a suspension at the moment, the snap shot cut off the auto plant recommendation of once pistils appear to start spraying
This is what I did and it worked fine… sprayed right after lights out on 18/6 every 3rd day as it says.
It was working the pollen that I didn’t do right apparently.
The seeds from the self pollinated one weren’t viable, but I’ve read that before too. Hit and miss on the self-pollinating thing I think.
Oh, and I covered the buckets/pots before spraying too. It’s bad at the root level I guess.
