Humidity too low (Small tent)

I live in new mexico and I have an indoor grow in a small 2 by 4 tent where I have two plants. I know people grow weed outside here and the humidity never gets above 30% unless it just rained and even then it’s only for an hour or so until the suns out again. In my grow tent levels are at 16% but this just seems crazy low for weed plants. I have tried putting a bowl of water with a towel in my tent but I think my carbon filter is taking out more humidity than that can produce. Should I get a plug in humidifier, if so how can I regulate the humidity with that? should i keep it on a timer etc…?

We have dry winters where I’m from and without anything I was at about 20% humidity… I just bought a cheap $25 humidifier from Walmart that had an adjustable knob. It’s not the most accurate but I’ve managed to get it to a steady level as long as I keep it filled. Got my tent up to 80% humidity and if I turn it down just a hair I’ve been able to keep it at about 70% where I need it. Depending how big your plants are… if your still at seedling stage just putting a ziplock or something similar over top will atleast help until you find something more permanent.

try to keep your humidity around 55-70% if your in veg. I run 65-80% in seedling stage. then once in flower, i try to stay inbetween 40-50%. I use 4x4 tents right now and use one of these humidifiers and stays pretty accurate so far. Good luck with your grow

When they’re really little just keep em under a dome.

And like Donaldj said once: I get 10% or so RH in winter (Canada) and I let the plants work it out. They usually do.

Frankly it’s better to be low humidity than too high.

Hey Goose, I’m near you and understand completely. My humidity is never over 27 RH in the grow tents and that’s with 2 humidifiers running full blast in the room that my tents are in, yeah it’s mostly going out the exhaust thru the carbon filter. It’s never been a problem for me though, my plants grow just fine. But yes, get a humidifier and just run it all the time, til the last week or 2 of flowering then let it dry up.

Thanks everyone for the responses, this is such an active and good forum i’m glad I found it.

Great looking at some humidifiers now to buy. What do you usually do for drying/ curing since humidity is so low? Do you just try and maintain temp and keep humidity up as best you can?

For drying/curing I run a humidifier in the drying area to keep RH up and slow down the drying, but they still dry in 4-5 days, enough to put into jars and then slowly bring the humidity down further and stable to 62 RH by opening the jars for 5-10 minutes a day. I use hygrometers to check RH in the jars. After they get below 62 RH, I don’t open the jars anymore as you’re just drying them out too much at that point.
