Hey guys im in my 2nd run ever with 6 autos going (jack herer OG Kush and Bubble gum ). My question at hand is… how do i get those nugs to fatten up:muscle:t5:… Im currently using all earth juice nutrients.( im switching to jacks 321 , with other advanced jacks nutrients) i follow the instructions to the T… and pro mix lights are spider farmer sf4000 sf3000 and 2 sf 2000. Any tips and advice is very much appreciated
The best way to have a productive grow is to focus on the basics. Proper watering, light, PPM, pH, and so on. You can try all of the “tricks” out there, but none of them are going to make any difference if the basics aren’t dialed in.
With autos you want the best environment right from the start so the plant does not waste a single day recovering from stress. So many of us plant them after the initial soak right into their final home. Lots of us use 3 gallon fabric pots for Autos. Good temps, adequate light, good airflow. Its my opinion that an autoflower plant will grow into its detected environment. Start it in a solo cup and it will sense the limited root zone and grow accordingly. Cant prove this theory, but I have transplanted from solos and had the plant stay small. Didnt even fill the new pot with roots.
Good cannabis friendly soil like happy frog. Jacks is great and if the plants DNA is good you will grow the best version. Some autos are just runts. Nothing you can do but take what they give you.
But I have seen some monster ones too. I switched to photo period and found them easier to grow. Switching the light schedule is no big deal.
It looks like they are foxtailing alot. Stop the foxtail and they might fatten up. Some strains are prone to it others get it from stress like too much light, too much heat, too much nitrogen during flower. The combination of them results in foxtails.
I have read that while foxtailing the plant is dedicating energy to outward growth and not to trichome maturation, stalling out the ripening process. The buds swell alot during ripening.
Dont know how much of that is bro science but makes good sence to me.
Yes you would be correct. A lot of fox tailing which could be from to much light.
I would also point out that a lot of autoflowers produce a looser flower than many photoperiod plants. Sativa-leaning plants also produce a more open flower.
I want to give props for actually using the word “Looser” correctly. Lol
I see it 10 times a day when the person intends to say Loser.
You @Myfriendis410 are my hero!
My pet peeve is when folks mix up “then” and “than”! Or just the whole shortening of words into abbreviations or phonetic spellings. It’s like dealing with 17 year olds!
When you are growing photos when should you change the light schedule from 18/6 to 12/12.
@Mancat When you think they are big enough to fill your tent if they double in size. Or when the canopy is nicely shaped and even with enough colas for you!
I’ve got an auto with about 2 weeks left and 2 photos about 4 weeks since light flip to 12/12 in a 4x4 tent. I’m now thinking of putting my 14 clones in there too and bud them right away once the auto finishes. They’re about a foot tall but still in 4" pots, don’t know what else to do with them (my outdoor sites I’d been scouting all suck!). At least they wouldn’t be out in the yard! With my 4 legal ones! LOL!
Ya, there’s 15 in these pics from 2 days ago, but bottom pic middle plant did NOT like the sun…when I transplanted her, her root was tiny. Should have left her couple more days in water before transplanting.
Mine is the words “a lot” of which is always always two words…
In regards to the original question, I suspect several of us beginners harvest too early? I know I’m guilty of my 1st grow and likely my second resulting in fluffy buds?
I wonder how much bulk they take on in the last two weeks and how much different the buds would have been if left to mature more. More dense??
I’m starting my 3rd grow (Acapulco Gold). I have plenty of weed in my closet so staying patient this grow is my intent (with the help of a mentor).
Your pretty close with your understanding that a plant will only grow as big as the root zone will let it. Those roots communicate and they know. Its a survival chemical response. A plant will only grow as big as its roots will let it and if the roots are in a small container, its not going to get all that big.
This is my understanding of it
While that is mostly true, cannabis can surprise you sometimes. A big pot can increase the potential for a bigger plant but it isnt the sole decision maker.
(None of these plants are mine.)
Amazing!!! Im impressed… how the heck was that done??? Are those photo shopped?..LOL
I will bet you a dime through a donut hole from 50 yards away that those took alot of nutrients…
Actually it just takes attn, Multiple waterings every day and skill. You have to know how to take care of the plant beyond any feeding schedule.
That is really amazing!
