How big a planter should I use to transplant my plants? Is a 3 gallon one large enough?

I went with a 16x16, 30qt self-watering container available at the large orange-themed home improvement stores. It nicely accepts common 25 quart bags of potting soil mix. The final filled container is heavy but can be moved around ok. It might be a bit larger than is absolutely required but I wanted to be cautious and not risk restricting my plant.

3 gallon is ok for autos. But if photos outside i would say 10 gallon.
