It’s a board, they may sell it as a kit. I know of some people using them, quality board for sure. they sell it in a compact board, or a little bigger. You can also use them with no heatsink up to 2A (70+w)
Now looking at it, they dont sell it as a complete kit, but the prices are comparable, and you may save on shipping costs by ordering closer to you. Just another option.
Do You think this is ok.???
I can’t give you an answer to that tbh. No real specifications to it so.
I also wanted to try their reflector series because of the better price. But Mars recommend me their newest light Pro II 160 for my 2x4 grow tent. They showed me some review pictures, which shocked me a lot. So i decided to go with it. Mars didn’t lie to me. I like what the light have done so far. My babies are still in veg stage. I will check if it also can work well for flowering.
Building your own light is not difficult. Saves ton of money. Build with quality boards though. Horticultural Lighting Group are highly recommended on this forum. That’s what I did Gold Leaf DWC Hydroponic - #16 by WickedAle
I watched the guide video on youtube. I think it is a little hard for newbies. The light don’t have any ventilation implements like heat sink. I guess the temp will be the same as HPS light. If the board burnt out, what you will do for that?
You can buy the kits with the heat sinks at HLG also. Just need to assemble. The boards are very efficient so they do not produce too much heat that the metal plate or heastink cannot handle. My 4 board setup puts out less heat that a single board cheep China LED.
The electrical efficiency of good leds vs alternative is so much better they don’t require active cooling. In most cases, you can touch them without being burned. Definitely can’t do that with hps.
Just how much of a crop increase can be expected on average, that’s alot of coin , just wondering how long would it take to get your invest back in grow compared to a cple 900 watt vipar, I’d like to see a side by side comparison grow, that would be cool.
What are you pulling from the two vipar 900’s in there now?
Well I’m just considering them, right now I’ve got 2 600 vipar pulling 230 each I believe, been watching some vids on them and right now it seems there main draw is effiency , not much on increasing yeild and as small as I grow ( 2-4 plants) I don’t see the long term return , I’m really looking at increased yield from lighting in some way , from spectrum , penatration , and coverage
I have a vipar 900w and it’s 418 Watts…think I paid 279 for it… I’ve been looking at the xl260 but haven’t pulled the trigger yet… also have 2 mars hydros with my Viparspectra @dbrn32 … they probably not the best lights but good bang for the buck… would like to see a comparison grow as well
Buying ready to go it would be the hlg-65, same light used in video above. They recommend one per 2x2 for veg. Otherwise there’s usually a little savings in buying the boards then sourcing other components and assembling on your own.
Thanks. Am on tight funds. $100 for a starter, quality supplemental light is doable, maybe 1 per month. It’s a plan, at least.
Building up as you go is usually a pretty good option. What you may run into planning on a bunch of smaller lights is starting them all on same circuit. The drivers have unusually high inrush current, much like starting an electric motor.
If you’re looking to get into a budget light with quantum boards, grabbing a 4 pack of the qb 120 or 132 boards on amazon can be a really good deal. A driver to run all of them is about $60, and you can probably wait on a discount code to save a couple bucks. That would require some assembly and a few other things, but you’d be looking at the $200-$250 usually. But you would also have the benefit of buying everything individually little by little. All said and done you’d have four of the same boards running for slightly more than the cost of two, and you’d have dimming.
The hlg-65 is a solid little light too, just throwing up some other budget friendly alternatives.
