HLG 650R question

Does anyone know where I can find the information for light height and power for this light? I am looking for general starting points for seed flower and veg. I am currently growing 8 autos and just started veg. I am at around 35% and 36" above. Im having hard time finding this info. I’m not too swift searching the forum just yet. Maybe because I’m stoned when I’m studying :man_shrugging:t2:
Any input or info on current practices are greatly appreciated!

I have a journal started. I’ll attempt to link this post with it. I believe that is what I should do.

You’ll do good at that height. Don’t go over 50% during veg, you’ll end up with deficiencies and other issues. Always turn it up gradually if you do turn it up.

After transition to flowering, you can turn it up quite a bit.
@dbrn32 probably can explain better than I can.

Will I ever be at full power on the light?

You can, as long as you bump the dimmer a little at a time. But if you’re not careful you’ll end up with light burn.
Never full power during veg. No need for it.

Hope this helps. I agree with @Covertgrower…i can’t see them using past 40% in veg. It’s Very intense.

And be sure to be mindful… the notch you feel in the dimmer is not half way! It’s much closer to 3/4 power at the notch.

@420qc
Thanks for the pic. I either didn’t get that with light or didn’t see it and threw away

Think i threw my first one away… kept the one when I got my second…lol!!

Didn’t know that. I was judging notch at half. I’m probably running at 40-45%

I watched a guy conduct a YouTube video with a light meter. You can tell when you turn to half way… then turn the rest… minimal increase.

thats a pretty powerful fixture. If you want you can run them at 80 percent with the light farther from the plant and you will get better penetration than lower power at a lower height. But at rhe expense if more energy use and more light and power supply wear. I would run my light at whatever the plant needs and just push it with bigger plants in flower.

i have to admit i am running mine at full power. i have it at 40 inches above canopy. first i saw cal mag def. then i researched it and found the higher the intensity the more they hog up the cal mag. my electric bill was ummm bigger. the buds and plants are beautiful and they are happy and i will just roll with it til harvest and see the diff. from last grows without it.

I’ve been cranking my 2 up daily until yesterday. I’m at the notch right now. Just waiting for buds to appear so I can crank them up rest of the way.

I have mine at about 40 inches on seedlings at maybe 40 percent and they are praying.

I only use my 650s for my flowering tent. I have my seedlings/veg under my 300l bspec. That’s only half way up on two week old girls.
