Help with DIY light

@dbrn32 hello hope you’re doing well. I heard you are the man when it comes to lights. I’ve been asking the question in the last couple days about spider farmer or hlg. My budget is 150. 200 after all said and done. I have a 2 by 3 flower tent with a spider farmer 1000 and 2 300w Amazon cheapos. Everything is fine but could be better. Was looking at another spider farmer 1000 or a hlg that’s equivalent for the same price. Several people last night on another thread were talking about DIY lights for cheaper if I’m not scared to put one together. I have no idea about any of the stuff I would need. And there’s too many people telling me too many different things. Do you have any suggestions of pieces and parts I would need within my budget that will give me something equivalent to an hlg or spider farmer I would greatly appreciate your time an input. I know you’re very busy no rush. Thank you again for your time

Well the hlg equivalent to spider farmer 1000 is a 100 v2 , and you can get 3000k, 4000k, and a rspec version of that board. They sell for 149 bucks.

@larry1 if you are interested spider farmer has old stock sf1000d is what they’re calling em for $80 they are the same as the new ones only they don’t have a dimmer imo a 100w light doesn’t need one unless you are micro growing. I’m not sure what it means but the site says Canada stock only I’m guessing it would have to ship out of Canada again I don’t know. They did have these on Amazon as well but for $100
Good luck on your search

Right. I was looking at the R-Spec or another spider 1000. Now I want to look into the DIY lights. Something that compares

That’s good to know. My spider farmer has the dimmer. But tell you the truth I don’t even use it. So to save 50 plus dollars it’s a pretty good deal. Thanks for the heads up

If you want to build light on budget for 2x3, I would do 9 bridgelux eb strips in 560mm length on meanwell hlg-185h-c1050a. You can get 1" wide heatsink extrusions in 24" lengths from heatsink usa. All said and done should be around $200

What.lol. Hello thank you I do appreciate the reply. Okay I should be able to Google those parts and then get it together. Or should I keep the spider farmer that’s in there now and build a light with the leftover room in my tent? The two Cheapo 300 W Amazon lights that I want to replace take up a 22 x 20 inch area.

If you’re going to build a light i would just build for the entire space. If not, then I wouldn’t worry about it. Digikey, arrow, or other types of electronic distributors will sell Led modules and driver. Outside of heatsinks, you could get rest of stuff like wire, power cord, and connectors on Amazon.

Something to think of, I run two 100 v2 3k boards in my 2x4, with 2 boards I can adjust for the different hight of two plants, like now I have an auto 19 inches and a photo at 26 inches. You can’t do with 1 fixture.

good luck man

Agreed. That’s what I’m dealing with now. I started out with 3 each in 5 gallon buckets in the 2 X 3 tent one ended up being a male and I found that out after three and a half months(?) And between the last two the sativa and indica they were both too big by the time I finally got the tent set up for flowering.( 4 1/2mo)

It would have been really cramped. I chose to take the sativa out put it in my living room as a houseplant till I’m ready. LOL. And then brought some of the Clones I took and place those in the spot where the sativa was. When I pull the indica I will put the sativa in its place. Long story short I’m working with a bi-level tent. I like the idea of being able to adjust the light if needed

Yeah man you got a bit goin on there, some nice bud too. Indica has very nice stacking, looks good. Clones are pretty chunky too. I try to keep just 2, I have done 3 in there but that’s tight…

Yes there is a lot going on. The whole right side is basically an experiment. The big indica I’m very happy with the way she stacking up so far. I woke her up December 2nd after 36 hours of beauty sleep  the experiment side since I had to take the sativa out I decided why not see what would happen with a few of the babies from both. Unfortunately the four babies had a rough go at puberty. Out in the living room in a old mesh iguana cage with towels wrapped around it keep it dark under a 45 watt blurple at a steady 67° for the first 3 weeks:-( decided to take the sativa out because it wasn’t going to fit and decided to move the babies in. Here’s a picture of the sativa it was going to go in there. And some pictures of the babies. Flip the switch on them November 2nd

solid 39in tall from ground those two pics are from the indica. Bagseed. these 2 pics are both from the sativa. In the back on the experiment side I’ve got two more of the baby sativa and one more of the indica also flipped December 2nd. When the first babies are ready I’m going to throw a couple of my baby Ice Cream Sandwich strains in. When the big indicas done I’m going to put the big sativa in. When it’s done hopefully I can even out my flower tent. LOL. A lot going on. LOL

Dude 39 now she’s a sativa and could double in the streach to flower lol… going to have to bend her over taking whole 2x3 or something. I have to flip my photos at 18 inches to get a 32 inch plant an I got close to 6’ to work with, how tall is your tent?

Lolol. I know the sativa is a beast. I’m probably going to have the top quite a few branches over the next few weeks. The babies didn’t stretch very much. But I know different variables can make a difference. I got about 5- 5 1/2 feet Max to work with. If and that’s a big IF I can keep her at 39 or get her down to 35 I will have about 2 ft to work with. LOL

Copy that  I love these kind of problems too much ha ha
