Hello all I am new to this all and could use some help with deciding on a New light system as I do not believe the t5s will cut it. The room it’s going to be put in is 6and a half ft by 5ft. By 7ft and the two lights I’m thinking about is either:
Bg 1000w ballast
Xtrasun 1000w bulb
Xtrasun 6" reflector for around 270$ or
Phantom ballast 1000w digital
Raptor 8"
Hortilux 1000w for around 600$
ADVICE PLEASE!!!
What about heat…? @Hogmaster
I really like the fact that I can cool my hps light’s…
I have sun system xxxl 8 inch air cooled hoods and I love them…
I only run 600 watt hps bulbs in them now , but I will be adding a 400 watt mh bulb to those hoods in the future… god willing…
I really want to see what the dual spectrum will do…
I already get pretty sick results with just the hps…
@peachfuzz To be honest I’ve been really fortunate with I don’t have that problem but I have a 15,000 BTU attic fan sucking all the air out of my room also and several other fans in there in my location that really doesn’t get any hotter than 85° in the summer time
and I have the light mover so not sure how I would hook up like some have too with the fans on there light I have enough crap hanging off the ceiling lol if you look on the back wall you can see my attic fan pulling the air out of the room and all my poor LEDs that are just laying on the floor I never use
And no insulation…? Wtf…?
Only 85 degrees…? Wtf…?
My room is so insulated , that you can’t even pick up a radio station barely…
Right now my temps outside are 109 degrees Fahrenheit… at 5 pm…
I’m hoping and praying for cooler temps…
I think when it boils down to the nitty , gritty …
You really just have to pick the right light technology for your environment…
I’ve even seen people complaining about how much heat that there LEDs put off…
I think of it like cars…
We used to build them to last…
Now we just build them to make revenue…
Same with the lighting technology…
I’m still sticking with oldschool , because I know that it works and its bullet proof…
Never let’s me down and I can control the temp of the fixture with a simple extraction fan …
@peachfuzz Yeah I just happen to be in a great area where 85 in the summer and 40s and 50s in the winter sounds like you’re in the desert I’m actually going to be insulating this winter I grew some last year but yields were not great but the colors where great I have ac and heat also but I absolutely agree with the heat from the LEDs and the HPS sir CMH sure they all have heat but I was using six different LEDs to get the same amount of light that I’m getting out of my one CMH and it’s not near as hot And I don’t get any signal out of my shed either once you walk outside full signal
I’m stressing out about this damn lights situation I don’t want to make the wrong choice. I’m looking at the shed you have the light in and it’s HUGE COMPARED TO THE ROOM I’M USING 6and half ft by 5ft wide by 7ft tall
Yeah I have like a 12 x 20 but I’m running mine on a light mover also if you just had it in a 5 x 7 or a 5 x 5 it’s just about right I’m just going off of prices to have an actual thousand watt and LEDs will cost a fortune and I’m cheap
So in your opinion is that light system All I need? I mean with the room I’m putting it in used to be a bathroom and has a window so if need be I can run a fan in the window as well. Like I said I have a four foot 4 tube t5 on my 5 day old GG autoflowers but I was given the light when I decided to do a grow room and was thinking I could grow All the way through using them…but apparently not,so I definitely think I need to upgrade being I would like to and plan to grow for a long time to come.
Great! I think I may actually go with that light. I have got ALOT of learning to do and really appreciate your time and help… You Will probably hear from me pretty often as I am here to stay… Thanks again
I would go cmh before hps without a doubt. Higher efficacy and more balanced spectral distribution. You have to spend some pretty serious cash on leds or go with double ended to beat them.
I don’t believe either that you posted were ceramic metal halide, in 1000 watt lights those should both be high pressure sodium. The light hogmaster linked is ceramic metal halide.
It basically comes down to amount of photosynthetic photon flux per watt of energy consumed.
@Dave22 These bulbs work great I have had them in for 15 weeks and no issues I was using Phillips but there 75 each these are priced great and they have great customer service
