Help explain what could’ve possibly happened here…

Hey everybody,

So I am at a loss of words of what could have gone down here… but I’ll explain. I came home from work on a very hot day and my tent was in the 80’s, it had gone up to 90 and even 100 once and all my hydro plants were fine, so I know it’s nothing to do with the heat. But my favorite auto I have growing right now (Mimosa x Orange Punch) started to look a little odd. Her water level was low and I could tell by the look of her leaves that I needed to just put fresh nutrients in, which is exactly what I did. I mixed enough for her and one of my other Autos (Purple Lemonade) because they germinated on the same day so it’s been nice not having to mix a bunch of different batches. About two hours after I filled them both up I noticed that the leaves were getting worse (drooping and starting to wilt). I just chopped it up to it being a stressful day on her and went to bed. When I woke up I could not believe my eyes on what I was seeing, she dried out her leaves almost completely and all of the leaves are clawing downward but Her roots looked perfect still. I did no change in dosage, I clean my buckets before every use and have never had an issue, I rinse them out very very thoroughly because I’m always been afraid of any trace of something that might hurt my plants. But here are photos I took the next morning. I am also throwing in what she looked like a week or so earlier for comparison.

Unless your running a chiller, my assumption would be the res temps. What’s your solution EC, PH and res temps and can you post some root pics

Are they all hydros? I would concur with @OGIncognito and @ChittyChittyBangin and say it was the heat. Are you using beneficial microbes? Root temps above 70F will allow bad microbes to colonize your root zone. You can control the temperature and keep them below 70F or use a product like Hydroguard to protect your root zone when temps are above 70F.
But to better understand your situation can you,
Answer these simple questions the best you can.

I would agree but I haven’t ran a chiller through my other autoflowers and never had any issue, they made it through to harvest just fine in the same tent as this plant. Different strain for the ones I’m talking about though. But this one was doing amazingly. Not one sign of stress until this happened. But I will give more detail here in a few answering someone’s question. Maybe you could check it out as well?

Yup all of my plants are hydros. Also, have been running Hydroguard since I started my first Hydroponic grow, that stuff has been a lifesaver.

Here’s my list of nutrients given:
General Hydroponics Flora Series
CalMag

I also run FloraKleen about every month

I did come home from work today to find that she is starting to heal but I still do not understand what could’ve caused this. I was going to give her another 24-48 hours before cutting the leaves that look dead only because most of the leaves in the photo were completely dead looking, dry and very brittle… You think this is the right move or should I just cut em now?

I think I would go ahead and start cleaning out the dead leaves. Since they are not goin to regenerate and are susceptible to decease.
Your regime looks spot on for a healthy grow. I’d check your Hydroguard for use by date. Old out of date could mean the microbe culture is not strong or completely inactive.
Also I’d scale back the daylight to 18 x 6 with the hottest daytime temperature to the off cycle. I prefer not to grow if the temps are above 85F. I think they grow best between 70-85F.
Your roots look like they may have a bit root rot. Not sure but I’d check your healthy plants roots and compare against the sickly one. Something’s going on and I think your roots could be the ‘root’ cause. With a healthy root system a bit of heat stress would not cause your foliage to wilt and die. Root rot can do this quick, Coupled with pH out of line.
Here’s my roots of a healthy DWC grow just before it is turned to flower.

Check and see if you think a bit of rot has got to your grow.

I dont know anything about growing hydro but your roots do look unhealthy. The bigger roots are supposed to have smaller hair like roots out of the sides to collect oxygen. I dont see them on yours. They should be poking out of the underside of the pot where the gaps are to let the roots hang through. Just my 2 cents. Take it for what its worth.

I gotta say definitely root rot. That brown slimy stuff on the bottom, especially the lower left corner.

I accidentally left my cloner turned off for 8hrs. All roots died! Had some at 6+inches. It was warm also 85+. But my stuff is all growing in same climate. And others are fine.

I stripped dead roots and left in cloner. New roots popped out. It was definitely lack of water and hewts that killed off the roots. I now have plants planted in starter pot.

Also I had weak buds from underwatering. Making them starve during late flower seams to have been a bad idea!!!

My first grow. But seamed to have experienced same thing with my cloner. All plants survived.

Maybe a power outage?

And literally just figured out starving at late flower will cause buds to loose density. I guess to save overall plant?
