Harvesting, aroma, daytime

I’m just looking for some advise when it comes to drying techniques. Everytime I have grown in the past, mostly outdoor, I can never get the smell to be the potent marijuana smell. I normaly get a green, earthy aroma.

Whatre some peoples go tos on how to know when the timing is right for jarring and burping and what not !?

I dry mine at 55 to 63% humidity and ~70F for a week to 10 days. Stems will snap rather than bend when dry. It will smell like hay or grass clippings throughout the dry and well into the cure too. The last several days of the cure is when it starts smelling like good weed. A cure can take 10 days to 2 weeks. I fill 1 qt. Ball jars half full and burp them 2 to 3 times a day early in the cure and then work them down to burping only once per day by the end of the cure. You can get smaller humidity monitors to help you too.

I agree with @MidwestGuy. I have noticed if I remove some from the jar and put in a ziplock bag the aroma jumps significantly. So much so I need to double bag or it becomes very noticeable.

Great thank you !

Plants with a very strong terpene profile will dominate everything else. I just dried a C99/Durban Thai that smelled outrageous the entire time it was drying. It got even better at cure.

So I’d say some of it is genetics, temperature appears to play a large role too. So if harvesting after plants have experienced mid 80’s temps your terpenes may suffer. Genetics is a huge factor we tend to overlook. You can do some things like water in some Epsom Salts.
