Growing in the mountains

I have found strains of cannabis that are favored for growing in the state of Virginia. I have already purchased and received Do Si Dos. My grow site is on a mountain side in the Eastern Blue Ridge. Will this strain work in the Virginia mountain climate?

@repins12 any thoughts on guerilla growing in the VA hillside brotha???

I’d say the only issue I would have concerns with is an appropriate amount of light each day. That and people stealing your grow.

I’m growing on private property. I have about an acre of open land on a property of 48 acres. There is plenty of sunlight. The location is very remote. There are no nearby neighbors. My only concern is with the strain I bought. I found out that White Widow is a good strain for the climate of Virginia, but I have spent my budget for supplies. Do you think I’ll have success with Do Si Dos?

I haven’t grown it yet but have heard mixed reviews of the strain. @JaneQP grew it outdoors but isn’t from VA and she gave it :+1:t2::+1:t2:. Another grower recently was complaining about it herming on him but I’m unsure what the stressor may have been (possibly the grower himself?). I’m from MD and I grow outdoors each summer and think our area is perfect for outdoor growing. Although some Falls are wetter than others and no heavy flower likes to be damp. And caterpillars drive us all nucking futs here.

@Sydious you’ve grown Do Si Dos right? Here’s another VA grower needing some strain advice.

Hey brother. Thanks for thinking of me, however, no… i have not grown Do-Si-Do yet. That same grower that complained about Hermies was who i offered a ‘seed swap’ with for some of my GG4 …
I’ve only had 1 grow outdoors in VA, Northern Lights and Skywalker OG (i don’t recommend either for outdoors in VA )
This coming fall, for outside, I’m going to be trying some Sativa dominated strains and hopefully including Strawberry Cough. (If ILGM will do 10+10 on them)
Sorry im no help with the Do-Si-Do :pensive:
Good luck and happy growing.
Stay up!

Oh… btw… @Fieldofdreams , those Godfather OG Clones you gave me are going into the flowering tent in about 2 hrs  as soon i scrub it down. I had to Bonsai them for a while because of room restrictions but they are vegging well now and ready to start showing off thier girly parts!

I grew a cross of Dosidos (clone). It was called Tangie Dosidos. She was an amazing producer with fragrant sticky dense buds. I grew one inside and one outside.

I gave away my two clones to a caregiver grower and she said the same thing. I wish I would have kept one as a mother but back then I had no more room and I was at my legal limit.

Were you growing in the state of Virginia? I want a strain that is good for the Eastern foothills of the the Blue Ridge mountains. Low elevation. I purchased Do Si Dos for their reputation of high THC content. Unfortunately I’m out of money and I have to work with what I have. I haven’t grown marijuana in 38 years so realistically I am a newb. Any advice will be helpful.

What seedbank did you get them from? Did you read up on their bio? ILGM has a pretty detailed description of them. Looks like an awesome strain for this region.

You have a good one in White Widow, if topped a few times to keep bud size smaller she does good outdoor, likes full sun. If i was recommending one for outdoor it would be Skittlez. I also had success with Runtz

I’ve grown weed in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia most of my adult life. I’ll be 59 in August. I have grown more strains than I can remember but, can’t recollect Do Si Do’s. I was completely an outdoor guerilla grower until around 3 years ago. I have also created many stains in the last couple of years right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains indoors and outdoors, both photos and autos. Growing remotely, you can expect to loose at least 15% and sometimes upward to 25-30% of your crop to critters or Ma Nature. In my personal opinion thieves are gonna be a major problem no matter how remote you are. Private Property does not keep people out. Never stopped me before. No nearby neighbors make it that much easier for people to sneak in. If people spent more time learning how to grow than learning how to find reefer patches to snatch. They would find it easier to grow. My personal opinion. Main reason I stopped growing remotely was my way of dealing with thieves, was even starting to scare me.
Growing where it can be monitored easy is the best, but risky. With Virginia’s 4 plant per household. I’ve been working all angles to try to find a loophole in that law. I’m getting too damn old to go to jail. Everything I come up with my lawery buddies shoot down.
That being said, you say you got plenty of sunlight. Do you have a nearby water source. Key in making shine or growing weed. Believe me humping water in is a SOB.
How many plants are you planning on growing? I suggest multiple smaller patches, rather than 1or 2 big/larger patches.
Eastern foothills Front Royal end or Damascus end?
If some of my photo creations were feminized, they would probably work well for you but, all of my photos are regulars.
Sorry for the rambling. Once I get healed up, maybe we can talk :v:t4:

I’ll be growing in the Eastern foothills in Madison Heights just outside of Lynchburg. I’m at the top of the mountain. There is a very rough dirt road that leads to my property. Cops don’t patrol that road. I’m not worried about thieves. I’m growing on the deck attached to my home. Archie, my german shepard is my security system. During the summer he likes to sleep outside. By the same token, I’m not worried about critters either. There is a creek about a hundred yards from my deck on my property. Pure clean water. I grew some plants 38 years ago. They got really big, but the smoke wasn’t very potent. They were from seeds that came in a stash. I’m definitely growing only four plants. I don’t expect any trouble from the law, but I’m not going to push my luck. Four plants should yield enough for my own personal use. You will see me here frequently since I am a newb. I find these new strains amazing. Keep in touch and happy growing.

We have been using drones on 2000 acres to find cows.
Nothing is private outdoors, even hunters using drones to hunt.
