Fox Farm "Happy Frog" soil

I’m starting a new grow this week. I’ll be utilizing autoflowers and starting seeds in final 3 gallon grow bag/pots. I’m NOT looking for advice on different soils to try

I’ll be using Fox farm Happy frog for the first time. After reading much on the soil there seems to be a lot of people happy with it so Im trying it… however, I have noticed many people say Happy frog is a pretty hot soil and sometimes early seedlings can get burnt when starting them directly into the soil.

My question is simple, after packing my 3 gallon grow pots with Happy frog can I simply take A fistful of dirt out of the pot and put a fistful of Coco core inside the hole and start the seedling there so it’s not quite as hot in the early rooting stage. I’m not sure if this makes any sense but it kind of made common sense to me but I’d love to have your feedback

Thank you all in advance for your kind assistance

I’ve always started my seeds in Happy Frog and never a problem. Ocean Forest is the hot FF soil.

I would avoid mixing soil and coco. Soil grows and coco grows are managed very differently from pH and watering perspectives.

Use straight Happy Frog, it’s the mildest of the FF mediums other than their seedling starter. I would recommend adding some additional perlite for drainage. The FFOF is the medium most growers state is too hot for seedlings and mix a 50/50 of this and Happy Frog :love_you_gesture:

I was going to use a 50/50 but I’m going to try straight soil this time just as a test. I use advanced nutrients. I love their pH perfect blend. You can basically throw away your pH pen. I never adjust my pH in the water and it’s perfect every time. Great technology on their behalf. Also thank you very much for your reply and I’ve heard the same thing it’s a pretty mild soil but it never hurts to investigate first!

I plan on using an 18 quart bag of perlite for the two cubic foot bag of Happy frog that sounds about right correct?

I agree soil has its benefits and Coco has its benefits but should not be mixed

A mix of 70/30 soil to perlite should get the job done. Later down the road I might can talk you into coco :joy::joy:. I switched from soil to coco about 3 years ago. I grow and live in the south and got tired of fighting all the bugs…a lot easier and cleaner in coco :love_you_gesture:

I will probably shift to coco for my next grow for the rapid growth.

You don’t have to talk me into using coco. I’ve used it many times and I love it! My only issue with coco is twice a day watering. I simply don’t have the time on this grow for watering. I have a few projects I’m working on that’s taking all my time so I thought straight soil would buy me a few hours to continue my projects :kissing_heart:

:point_up_2: sounds like myself. I invested in auto pots a few years back for the reason of 16-18 hour work days……game changer :love_you_gesture:

It will. I’ve always been a dirt farmer. I’ll probably start it this coming Winter. I’ve got more weed than I could possibly smoke or give away right now.

Right on, a surplus of weed is a good thing. I’m shutting mine down after this harvest for the upcoming move to the house I purchased last month and will actually have a grow room after some build work :love_you_gesture:

I could think of worse problems to have. Lol
