Hey y’all. If I have a five gallon smart pot and flush it with 15 gallons of RO water, can I chop it the same day and still achieve the white ash and clean smoke?
Flushing only removes or dilutes nutrients in the soil / medium. It does not flush them out of the plant. The plant does that through consumption.
So the answer is NO unless you have starved the plant the previous week or two.
Many people say that removing nutrients does little if anything - good or bad, so I think yes, if it is ripe, chop.
White ash comes from a clean burn. Things that might interfere with a clean burn are impurities in or on the bud and a wet product.
My grows are 100% organic. I do not flush especially for harvest. I try to dry my smoke as long as possible (10 days or better). I also cure for at least 3 weeks.
Good points. I was just thinking about unused nutrients.
Appreciate the info!!!
The final flush is a process over 7-14 days long. Its not to wash away nutes its a means of forcing the plant to use its stored nutrition. You do this by only giving it pure water last 2 weeks b4 harvest.
Flushing the soil is a corrective measure to wash away salt buildup and reset ph of medium.
If u set the plant in total dark for 24 to 48 hours. Everything in the plant drops down into the rootball once lights kick on within a minute or 2 at most everything goes shooting back up thru the stalks back to the plant. So if u want most of the stuff out of the plant it is prolly best for 24 to 48 hrs dark then open up and chip instant faster the better have it all set and ready to go when u. Lose tent for the dark time so when u open u know exactly when to snip right away.
Oh doing 2 weeks or so water only is what will usually bring out colors if they have it in the plant. When u see the colors coming on the leaves that’s when u know it is eating itself upas nothing is in the soils for it to eat. Good luck keep us posted we all love seeing ones outcomes.
U wnat to water with plain water no nutrients for at least five to 8 days
Appreciate all the responses. Very helpful. One last thing…
I’m going to water for the next 7-10 days then chop it as many have suggested. Can I keep watering if my soil is wet (promix). I plan on watering everyday roughly 2-3 gallons
