First Timer - B's Indoor Autos Journal

Recently added some comments to another member’s question and thought this is a good time to start my journal!

I started my autos in glasses of water. All floated at first, but just gave a little tap to get them to sink. As soon as I saw the first sign of tap root, I pre-moistened (not drenched) my FFOF soil in 2 gallon fabric pots. I used a paper towel to filter water from the glasses as I poured them out, in case the seed came out I could catch it with the paper towel. Then used sterilized tweezers to carefully move the seedling to the pot. I dug a .5" hole and put the seed in then lightly covered with soil. Then sprayed lightly with filtered tap water from spray bottle to keep soil moist on top inch. I then covered pots with plastic wrap and put in the dark tent. I continued to watch top of soil to keep it moist with the spray bottle. After about 2-3 days, sprouts popped from the soil. As soon as they break the surface, I removed the plastic and turned lights (TSL-2000) on for 24 hours then switched to 18/6 about 24" from plants. After another day or two, as soil began drying out, I started pouring water very very slowly around the base of the stems and let it soak down into the soil. Since they’re in final pots already, I only water in a 2-3" circle around the plants. That takes 2-3 days before soil is drying out again and I repeat watering. So far, I’ve been watering about 4 hours before lights out. I am adding Fox Farms Big Bloom, but at 1/4 of the recommended dosage and only every other watering, since I’ve read Autos are sensitive to nutes.

I’ll update as I progress along… Open to any comments or suggestions from this awesome community!!

Thanks Covert! Hoping to keep them happy and growing. Gotta keep reminding myself it’s a marathon, not a sprint lol. Impatience is killer… restraint from making drastic adjustments and waiting for results from small adjustments before making more is tough but makes a huge difference when I do it. I’m trying to keep it simple and let mother nature do her thing.

And then before you know, they grow, with a little help from you, and they take care of themselves.

I agree looking great so far, are you not concerned with feeding those little gals so soon in ffof?

Big bloom is a very mild nutrient mix. That is released slowly.

Not really… I am watching but as Covert mentioned, it’s pretty mild and I’m only adding 1tsp/gal so about 1/3 of recommended dosage. Thanks for the note though! I’ll definitely keep my eye out for burn signs.

@JustSmokeItB. Looking good. I grew them when i first started. Blueberry and NL where our favorite. Good luck with your grow.

Thanks @Deepsix! So far so good! Glad to hear you had good success with them. Those were the two must-have strains back in the day. Figure if these go well, I’ll step it up to something a little more modern with more THC

Thanks @Booguatti Just started this earlier today…

Just finished watering with a light dose of FF Big Bloom. Couldn’t help but get some on the leaves… Of course paranoia set in and I rushed to get a spray bottle with distilled water to give em a quick spray to make sure leaves don’t burn from nutes sitting on them.

Close call or paranoid idiot? A little of both?

Girls are looking great this morning!

Almost 3 weeks in since they broke soil and started seeing yellow tips on the new growth of all three plants… and yellow speckles on the NL. Watering every 3 days when soil dries out. I’m using FFOF and adding FF Big Bloom at 2tsp/g every other watering (1/3 of recommended dosage). Anything to be worried about here?

Not seeing anything to be hugely concerned about. Could be the light, could be a bit hungry. I wouldn’t worry about what your seeing but I think you could let them dry out real good and give them a good watering to runoff and check your numbers if you wanted. They look big enough for it to me in two gallon pots. See what the others think.

Thanks @Eagles009! I planned on watering to runoff on Thursday when I last watered… Since I’m using tap water, I’m leaving it sit out for a day or so before using and misjudged how much to take out to water to runoff for the first time so ended up not having enough prepped water. Hoping next watering (today or tomorrow) I’ve got enough prepped water to water all three to runoff.

When you say “could be the light,” you mean too much or not enough?

I’m thinking it’s not a matter of not enough food, as everything I’ve read regarding FFOF leans towards too hot as opposed to not enough.

Correct could be just a tad too much

I, TYPICALLY let my water sit out for 24 hours but I only have so much room to have water sitting around my bathroom before the wife kills me. I have watered straight from the faucet a few times with no signs of adverse effect. My ppm comes out at 80. I would definitely water a plant that needs water before worrying about the 24 hours, just throwing it out there.

Good point. I wondered about risk/benefit between adding more water straight from tap vs. leaving as-is until dry then watering again with water that’s sat out. I’ll keep that in mind if I run into situation again in the future that I don’t have enough prepped water. And same here with the wife… I’ve commandeered the guest bathroom counter for my watering supplies lol

Nothing is looming bad really to me either. Just a slight tip burn which is not bad. I would do a runoff and see if it is ready for a good dose of food. I use jacks and put half strangth nutes to my autos at 2 weeks and it just hit the tips like yours are now but been fine since. They r growing like nuts right now lol

Thanks @Mark0427! Gonna hold off on nutes for the next watering and make sure to water to runoff. I’ll check ppm at that point and see where I’m at
