First time grower entering my 5th week of flowering with many questions lol

Hey guys. The title is self explanatory. This is my first time growing and I have been feeding her the FF nutrients every other day with everyday in between that she is getting fresh water. She still has no smell except the one that I smell coming from the buds which honestly idk how to explain it other than earthy and not anything to brag about lol. My question is what should I expect in the weeks to come leading into harvest? How much of a flush is done before harvest and also does anyone see any purpose in those bud trimmers or can you still achieve the same results the old fashion way? Next with sugar leaves do they need to be dried after trimming before using them for edibles/extracts or so they need to be cured etc like the buds? Also what is up with the yellowing of the leaves? Is this normal or previous nutrient burn that I have since dealt with? Many many questions my fellow growers lol. Pics are of course to show progress. The first picture is from 8/14 :flushed: to now

Hello! Your buds look pretty nice, but I will do my best to answer your questions.

Fox farms recommends flushing a few times throughout grow. If you haven’t been doing these could be reason you have run into some issues. If you visit their website you can download chart for your products. This is general guideline and may require you to adjust as needed. Also pay extra attention to the footnotes, some good tips there. Feeding every other day and watering between is not typically how that stuff is used either. Most will run thorough soaking of pot and then leave alone until soil dries out some. And then rotate feedings with watering. Usually ends up with 1-2 feedings per week and 1-2 watering per week. Flushing before harvest i wouldn’t even sweat. There is large community of growers and some data to suggest its completely unnecessary. If you want to do this, just go straight watering last few times.

You don’t need a bud trimmer. Get yourself a pair or two of the fiskars trimming shears and have a little bit of isopropyl alcohol on standby for cleaning.

Depends on type of extract you plan to do and how you plan to use. Some types require you to freeze wet trim, and other’s would be better off dried and decarbed prior to extract. Figure out exactly what you want to do and you should be able to find best way to prep your trim.

Could be. They look pretty dark and I can see some clawing. That coupled with your statement about feeding every other day has me thinking you are a little rich on nutrients. Best way to tell would be get ppm or ec reading on your water then pour it through pot and collect in a clean dish. See how it comes out in comparison to going in.

Concur that this is too often (assuming you are in soil.) Get yourself a PPM meter to help you feed at proper levels. I don’t really see nitrogen toxicity, but if feeding that often it is a real risk.

You may need to flush more often if in soil and using the FF salt based nutes. Salt buildup can cause pH problems. It’s a good idea to have a pH meter handy too.

No other words than you are awesome lol. I kicked myself in the @$$ a few times after reading their feeding schedule. I plan on now altering my feeding schedule doing a nice flush and starting off as fresh as I can

Thank you brother. I feel like an idiot lmao the instructions on the bottle aren’t the best to be honest I learned more from reading the feeding schedule online than anything else. One of the nutes calls for 4 tablespoons and I did it with two and that seems to work better. I’ve experienced poor plant response from the full 4 before.

Yeah, the FF schedule is pretty aggressive and people sometimes experience nute burn using the full schedule. I use the FF Trio and only feed at half of the recommended schedule.

Have you had any poor experience with using big bloom at 2TBS?

I usually feed 10ml of Big Bloom twice a week. I underfeed my plants on purpose. It’s a delicate balance. Too little nutes hinders plant health and productivity, and too much results in the need for more flushes and potential nute burn. I’ll let the plant tell me if it needs more (or less.)

Just a footnote in itself. The excessive amount of nutrients is also why you aren’t getting the terpenes. There’s a level, even before burn, that high nutrient levels will grow bigger buds at the cost of terpenes. So the product will lack flavor/smell, still does the job. Just wanted to add that tidbit. You got great help here. Happy growing!

My next harvest may be my first to actually have flavor… lol. Even my biggest girl had great looking buds and high. No flavor. Nutrients where to heavy.

Where can I read about this? I’ve never heard of it. An article? Part of a book? Online grow guides?
