First plant / jack herrer auto. is this normal?

i think its working a bit too well. its at 47% and its feeling crispy in just 3 days.
i left the fan off today to see what happens (with no venting open)

I harvested my little runt and having the opposite issues. I jarred too early and the RH shot up to past 90! I had to take them out and lay them on a plate with a gentle fan breeze to dry them out a little more.

Always something!

That’s why the smoke is even more enjoyable!

Keep posted.

update. after dry : 5 1/8 oz… after trimming off stems: 4.5 oz in jars

Nice! Take it slow on the cure. I have managed to keep the jars tight and not dig in to them till ready, or as ready as I can manage. The smell of the blueberry definitely intensified over the weeks. It smells great. Opened the jars today and currently enjoying a lazy afternoon on the deck… compliments of Blueberry! A cup of coffee, too!

Where’s the bud porn?

That is impressive! A few weeks and you will be all set!

i’m a bit concerned about the humidity in the jars…55-57%
a bit lower than ideal. not sure whether 4 or 5 % is that important

I think you are in a great range. What are your temps?

This is what I have followed. I can’t recall who provided the info, sorry!

“Store the containers in a dark area where the temperature is between 50-65 degrees and the humidity is between 40%-60%.”

I have Boveda 62 RH packs in each of mine and they still fluctuate just a bit +/- 1%. This morning at 61 RH; now 62RH. One jar was really low, so I cut a leaf from the Northern and put it in the jar. The humidity went way up. Removed the leaf and dialed it in to 62 as best I could. Seemed to work!

Almost there!

70ish depends on the day…its getting cooler!

i poked a bunch of holes in my dry box and left out the fan. it dried them too fast i thought. i used a floor fan outside the box for airflow. great job by the way

thanks…i really had no idea what to expect or to do.
it was pretty much on the dry side when i harvested
so i think that it figures it would read a bit low in the jars.

That’s a great idea @pptrsha1. One of my clippings dried too much too fast. I will look into cutting some vents into the drying box with a weaker wind - maybe a computer fan I have around will do?

What happens if it dries too fast?

While I am still learning, the drying impacts the taste, smell, effects, and smoothness of the smoke.

Here is info I read from another source. Sorry cannot recall from where or whom.

“The idea is to remove the water slowly enough to let biological processes take place that convert the sugars and starches into harmless and flavorful compounds. Sugar or starch will give a harsh smoke that hurts the lungs.
Plants need sugars to live on and they produce them from fertilizer and sunlight. This curing process also breaks down some of the chlorophyll which give herb it’s green color. Too much chlorophyll gives an unwanted leafy taste.”

I’m sure others have more reasons.
