Hey ppl, cut down my plant yesterday… thoughts/ critiques?
how happy are you?
For my first, I’m excited, confused and semi happy lol
Looks like a lil more light would have helped fill out your buds. Also… for the future, never never never never trim your buds while they are wet. The chlorophyll in the dark green leaves will stain your weed with a grassy scent and mask the actual odor. You wanna begin trimming after your weed has dried to the point of feeling crispy on the outside, with stems that will make a snapping noise but not completely sever when you bend them. Imagine the smell is an oil on your buds. If it dries too hot it will evaporate, so you want it to dry slowly, and not contaminate it with the smell of the fresh leaves
I agree on the light, my 2x2 was crowded most of the time. On the second, in confused by what you said. If the chlorophyll is in the leaves and will give off a grassy smell, wouldn’t i want to remove them? Maybe I’m not understanding. I’ve seen this topic covered a lot and ppl seem to be 50/50 wet vs dry trimming
Congratulations looks good. Shoot for a slow drying
Eight or nine days in a dark place. try to get the temperature down to 65 to 70 degrees would be good. My last plant I had to settle for 70 to 72 took eight days but it turned out really good.
Don’t listen to anyone who says you should trim your weed wet. You can remove the larger fan leaves that have the obvious stems, but I would refrain from cutting into anything till it’s dry. You know how fresh cut grass smells strong till it drys, which is where it looses its odor and begins smelling like straw. So as your leaves dry, they loose the green smell, and retain the smell from the oils that haven’t evaporated. I have seen lots and lots of people spend an entire year growing great weed, and then basically destroy its smell/taste by trimming it wet. They literally lost 1/4 the value by doing that. Plus keep in mind, more plant matter = slower dry. Slower dry = more terpene retention. As long as you don’t get mold, you want to draw that process out if possible. You probably have noticed that small bottom buds that dry overnight smell like grass too. From what I understand that’s because the terpenes/oils have evaporated, and the chlorophyll in the leaves didn’t have the time to dissipate, leaving a bud that’s smell is overpowered by green plant smell
So far I’ve been 68-72, thanks!
gotcha, makes sense now. I was tempted to go back in and trim some more, but I’ll just let her sit and just keep the environmental controls correct. Thanks!
You also get a much better “bag smell” by trimming dry because it releases the odor from the stuff you trim, and then gets trapped and accumulated in your jar or turkey bag that holds your finished product
Certain essential terpenes start to dissipate at around 65F. Tried and True.
I try to shoot for 60F 60 RH. Not easy though.
But its definitely noticeable with just a few degree difference
I feel like nearly everyone wet trims.
I do a half and half depending on the thickness of bud.
But id have to agree. Dry trim gives a better bag smell
