First grow under way! Three Lemon Haze 100% sativa in a 4 x 4 x 7 in soil under 900W LED

I topped my NL two times before flower. That and LST is why they were 12" or less when they flipped.
If it were me, I would only top the apical stem at the node that gets it even with the rest of the plant. Then use the net as intended to keep the canopy as even as possible.

Ok - that makes sense I think. By the apical stem I assume you mean the main stem. And by even, you mean when looking downwards it looks balanced in its nodes? I suppose topping too much might have a drop-off point. It makes sense to play it with minimal stress.

Actually, horizontally across the top so when you put the net that close to same height. I was thinking they were older / taller. Probably the just above the top node which would be #5 if I am counting right

Gander is on the other side of Canada from me, been there, they can have it!

What he’s saying, omg Im speaking on behalf of someone! , thats bad, shouldnt do it… but Im goona!
When you pinch the the top of the plant it stalls it out. This allows the other side branches an opportunity to play catch up. Once they are the same height, you can top em all and double up on bud sites. The plant naturally wants a dominant main leader, but it will nominate one ir more to lead the charge if the main one gets eaten by a :deer:

I don’t disagree with @Cannabian at at all. Like I said I topped by NL 2x You can check them out at Northern Lights Flower - 2nd Installment - SCROG

Thanks for the clarification. That makes sense. I wasn’t thinking that the top was cut for horizontal effect at the cut - I was thinking it was the result. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
Yes, the fifth node is new -so that will be the target. A little extra time will let that node grow out a bit before decapitation - making a more viable clone.

So if I am understanding correctly, you are suggesting FIMMing as the first step - to stall the stretch rather than topping? And then topping once the FIMM effect had grown out? I didn’t realisle that the FIMM was also used to control the height - I thought it was more about splitting bud sites?
I had only really looked at topping and fimming as separate processes for very different effect - not something that could be used in concert.

Ouch that would of been painful @DankBank22 @Budz420. I have only ever sprained my
ankle a few times from drinking and footy I have nothing to compare to you guys :scream_cat:
And what is this expo your talking about! I want to go haha

Its called “The Hemp Expo

It really was fascinating - I spent the whole day wandering. It is a shame I wasn’t growing at that time - or even considering it.
The pain is not too bad - most of the time - easily managed. But then there are other times… and they are nasty. But with good bud I can get through. This Lemon Haze helps, but it is more head than body.
Once I get some confidence up, I’ll target pain relief in whatever I decide to grow.

Hey @MadCandy.,.what up. Hope all is well.
Oh it totally sucked! Hahah
Yeah “Hemp Expo” the coolest freaking expo ever! Man…we are missing out!

I didnt say fim? No I was just referring to pinching the top. Thats how I do it, pinch the top off with my fingernails, not an exact science. That leader will make 2 new branches in a few days. Meanwhile, the lower branches will grow putwards and upwards. Once the branches catch up to the top you can either pinch em all again or just let em grow. Some plants dont really need pinching. Like these, that in this image was a fresh transplant

And now

It’s well worth it. Definitely looking forward to it in my current situation…

Yes - the cold weather is challenging!

That is cool. My mistake - every time I see pinching mentioned - it is in regards to fimming, and topping is spoken of as a cut. I totally get it - you are topping with a pinch. All good.
Definitely going to top once - then I will see how they grow and decide if its worth doing another. I don’t want to overcrowd and haven’t seen these girls trained and heavy.
The pics really show the effects well - thanks. Nice job! Will get you some nice results there
