First Grow From Beginning to End

Does your microscope not have an LED light on it? It makes it much easier if it does. I like to turn off all the lights and just use that as my light source. Here’s the scope use, it’s a whopping $7.

I sent the digital microscope back as the optics were not up to standards. Even the second, much more expensive one, was inadequate. Well not quite true, for $200 I want more than barely adequate.

I am now using my full size DSLR with macro extender tubes. This way I get the benefit of the Nikon optics and still get reasonable closeups.

The ring light that I am looking at will give the ability to adjust the intensity of the light (or no light) as well as controlling which direction(s) the light comes from.

I am still getting a handle on macro (super closeup) photography since I have not done any for nearly 40 years. The technology that is available today for such things is amazing.

$200! Dude, you don’t need to spend that kind of money to get a good view of trichs. I have a few scopes ranging in price from cheap to expensive, and this little piece of crap is the best of all of them, plus it clips to your phone so you can take pictures. But if you’ve got a good DSLR that should get you some great shots provided you have good lighting.

That is exactly where I am heading. I did keep the cheap scope even though the optics suck because it was only $20 (I got what I paid for). My expectations for photography results sort of exceed my budget. I have played with some of the other sorts of close up lens solutions that are really cheap but wanted more control and/or better quality shots.

I am fairly happy with the macro tubes on my normal lens, the only short coming is that the magnification level is fairly modest (as you can see from recent photo) but the resolution of my camera allows me to digitally zoom far enough to see the details.

It is worth noting that the photos that I post have been reduced in resolution to save server space and improve upload/download times.

Yeah, that’s too much! I broke apart something like this:

…to get this lens:

I just tape it over the camera lens on the back of my phone. All the trichome pics I’ve posted are from it.

I would do something like that but I am very squeamish about using any mobile (connected) device for this. I don’t want to hassle with changing the storage to local when taking cannabis photo and I certainly don’t want cannabis photos making their way to my cloud storage.

My concern here is likely over blown but that I where my head is.

That’s a good point. My cloud is filled with nothing but pot porn. Lol

The encrypted partition on my lap top is filled with “bud porn” as well. Each photo is 12 MB+ and there are literally thousands of them. Thank you for cheap storage!

Not much different from posting here, is it?

Our personal information is not associated with our accounts on the forum.

If someone really wanted to you could use network snooping tools to figure out who was who but the effort makes it unlikely to occur.

My various cloud storage accounts have my name, address, phone #, and a bunch of other stuff associated and we are relying on the folks managing the cloud server to be honest and that they are not being hacked.
Sophisticated hackers are mostly interested in acquiring hundreds of millions of peoples data and the effort to get a few thousand on this forum is not worth it to them.

The difference is not huge, but the layer of anonymity makes me feel a bit more secure for what it is worth.

See, I just don’t care. If someone finds my pot porn, so be it. I don’t think anyone cares that I’m growing one plant.

I agree that it is situational and depends upon where you live and what the risks are of people knowing what you are doing. In my case, it would be a profoundly negative thing if word got out in my small town that I was growing cannabis. Seems ridiculous and I may be overly concerned but the risk is just not something that I want to take on.

All this said, clearly the folks at Amazon know what I am doing. I am now getting adds for cannabis related products coming across my screen. I must be very careful what screens are open on my computer at work.

I am not at all concerned about the law. Where I live it is “legal” and the feds really don’t care about us small time growers. They have their hands full with bigger fish (unfortunately).

Same here, the law is the least of my worries. Honestly, I have very little to worry about, yet I still do because of the stigma. Sad.

Amazon! Yes, exactly! I’m sure someone has a file on all of us just from our shopping history.

The only redeeming thing about the Amazon connection is that (for me at least) I have purchased nothing illegal so any assertion that I am breaking laws (even federal) is an assumption and may not even be enough to get a warrant. But again the law isn’t my concern, it is mostly my (much needed) job and community that concerns me.

Most of my grow stuff is bought locally. But even then, they have you on camera. If you’re gonna be paranoid, I say go all in.

I understand that. I live in a big city, so it’s different even if it’s still not legal. Though I’d probably be kicked out of my apartment since my building is owned by nuns. LOL! And they live on the top floor!

That’s so hilarious. You know, they probably smoke, too.

Yeah, they probably do. They’ve never complained about the smell coming out of my apartment.

I figure when I do get a bigger place and set up the grow room I want, I’ll keep the flowzer, and do autos. I’ll leave it out in the open, so if someone smells it, I’ll just show them the one plant. Never mind the dozen in the spare bedroom…
