First grow ever! How’s it going?

Do I need to top my plants? I kept reading not to top my auto flower but it needs light and air underneath.`

Welcome to the community!

Nebula Haze recently did a side by side trained and untrained autos, the yields were incredibly similar. Your plant actually has decent light penetration so I wouldn’t be worried about it. That type of training is more of a preference, or grow space for of thing.

Leaves are what fuels a plant. The fewer there are the harder what’s left has to work. You can achieve a nicely shaped plant with good LST without topping. At this point I would not top for couple days. It has been stressed by having its leaves stripped.

Is that 2 plants in one pot?

Hi @Kelli welcome to the neighborhood, I top and train everyone of my autos the same to keep it simple so I don’t slow their growth. Here’s where I top mine this leaves me with 8 tops

@Underthestairs
Winner: Trained Tent

  • Slightly bigger yields
  • Higher THC levels
  • More terpenes (stronger smell)
  • Buds are significantly denser
  • Higher overall bag appeal

I can not imagine the larf at the bottom of the untrained plants that are 3’ from the light amount to much of anything.

I was thinking the same thing. Those bottom growers are the first to go. But wanted to keep it simple

Welcome to the community ! I like to top my autos one time at about 5 nodes if they are healthy an off to a good start. Personally I top all of my plants I like more of a Bush plant With even canopy than a Christmas tree. Happy growing.

The bottom, smaller plant was my very first seed ever planted and it came out as a TWIN!! Slow growing bc if stunted period

due to repotting bc of water retention and bugs. It came through but is growing really slow.

:point_up_2: my thoughts on this plant as well even though I’m a auto topper :love_you_gesture:

Yes, it is 2 plants in one pot. I planted one seed, my VERY FIRST EVER and it came out as a TWIN. No, I didn’t screw up and plant 2. I only had 4 seeds and I have a total of 4 plants so I’m not sure how I could have possibly put 2 seeds in one pot. I looked closely when it was still a seedling and there are 2 plants coming out of the 1 seed. I thought it was really cool to have twins my first time out!! Lol! Are y’all saying my twin isn’t going to do anything? Did I understand that correctly?

It absolutely makes sense to me that I trained plant has far denser bottom buds by simply being able to keep the light closer with a lower canopy.

Twin runs that I’ve seen are a little bit hit or miss at times. I’ve seen it where people will snip off whichever one is underperforming. I’ve never had the fortune of trying one… I myself love strange things so I wouldn’t hesitate to grow it all the way out

welcome to the community

I like the thought of the natural shape. Do it with the right strain and I think it would have to be pounded with light to minimize stretch and internode spacing. I have a frame that could be used to set up both top and side lighting. That is all I need is more ideas to experiment on. Damn I like it though. I have to see if I have any purple kush seeds left. I know I have girl scout cookies and cherry pie which are 80/20

I was trying to leave it as is just to see what it would do. I read that it was real risky to separate them and with this being my first grow I was just afraid of screwing up. If it lives, it lives, if not, ok. Hey
I’ve got 3 more growing and 2 photo sensitive I just started. Heck, I have no idea what I’m doing but these things grow if you throw them in the dirt in the backyard so I tend to believe the less I F with them, the better they will be. Got my tent set up with carbon fan and 2 small fans for air circulation. Started them in, actually, ocean forest and MIRACLE GROW. Giving them only ab 1/4 -1/3 directed amount of tiger bloom. Started just last week so only had 2 doses so far. Scared to give too much bc I already screwed up by doing the one thing I was told not to do….I overwatered. Didn’t think I was, but I definitely was!! They have almost doubled in size in the last 10 days. Had some nute burn from veg apps. Then yellow spot probably brought on by being waterlogged. Using Neem oil but had to spray a small amount of bug poison bc the neem oil wasn’t taking care of it. I used the one that starts with an “S”, the kind that is most recommended. I think that burnt some of my leaves, too. I removed some whole leaves and some partial to keep any crap from spreading. The twin was stunted bc I had to clean him and transplant him bc of overwatering and bugs. But he has really grown in the last week. I’ve got some feminizing spray I want to try on my plant that’s only 2 weeks old. Now is the time to start spraying it and I’m supposed to spray for a month. Thanks for your help. Any info, opinions, learned knowledge are all appreciated. Like I said, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve NEVER grown a weed plant before. I just read and watch videos and try to find a middle ground with all the info out there. I’m really kind of surprised they grew as well as they did. lol! Thanks again, hon!

You’ll have tons of help and advice around here. Excellent group of really talented growers. I knew nothing even I first came here, I’ve grown done beautiful plants because of the advice people shared.

Definitely go easy on feeding since you’re in miracle grow. That’s typically very unfriendly to cannabis. @Dr.ofSmokology has grown successfully I’m miracle grow and may be able to offer some advice for success.

I’ll be following along, keep the pictures coming!

Welcome to the community, miracle grow does work, but doesn’t always get along with cannabis as well as it should because of the time release nutrients.
Topping autos is growers preference, you can, and some don’t. I’ve seen positive results from both just the same. @Kelli
