First Grow Ever - 3 Different Strains - 100% Fun

Wednesday, September 14th, 2019 - Day 1

As the title states, this is my very first grow - I have posted a few questions on here, but I thought I would do my first grow further justice by documenting every single minute detail for the world to consume…ok or maybe just me lol.

I have already made quite a few amateur mistakes, but have corrected them as quickly as possible from the great advice of other members on this forum! Regardless of the “mistakes” the community on here, and sheer fun I’ve been having with this process has made it all worth it so far!

Grow Room Details

I’ve decided to start my first grow as an Indoor grow here are the technical details:

Strain Details

This first grow was meant more to learn and understand the ‘basics’ before getting into heavy into the types of strains/seeds I wanted to use. I was gifted 3 seeds:

  • Girl Scout Cookies
  • Night Fire OG
  • Unknown Seed

Unfortunately when I planted them, I had no way of knowing which seed was which strain, so I’ve been treating them the same in terms of care. Additionally - I didn’t start taking photos until the later stages of the grow either.

Sunday, September 18th, 2019 - Day 5

I decided to throw all of the seeds into tap water in a small dish - each seed fully “popped” around Day 4, with roughly 3/4 inch sprout. Once each seed was roughly the same length I put each individual sprout in their own 3 quart planting plastic container. I then put them under the grow lights about 3.5 feet above the sprouts. This took off…FAST.

Thursday, October 10th, 2019 - Day 24

I originally started with Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil when I planted my seeds. Thanks to the amazing help by @Myfriendis410, @blackthumbbetty, and @Skydiver for educating me on the importance of good wholesome soil, I transplanted my girls in larger 2-Gallon Grow Bags and then used BlackGold Natural & Organic Potting Mix + Fertilizer.

My full write-up on the can be found here.

Saturday, October 12th, 2019 - Day 26

Honestly today has been the most rewarding day. So here is what I’ve done… My grow tent is small (I know that now) for the amount of plants I’m starting with.

One of my plants main cola broke off during my first implimentation of Low-Stress Training. My full write-up is here.

So due to space issues, I’ve moved the plant that “broke” to the outside for fun. Today, I believe the outdoor plant began to begin the flowering process!!

I’ll continue updating this journal now that I’ve caught myself up, and made the initial post. I’ve got a long way to go before harvest - but I already want to give a huge thanks to:
@myfriendis410 @blackthumbbetty @skydiver @KinSEDC @PurpNGold74 @fano_man @Hogmaster @Oldguy

Can’t wait to see this first crow through the end, and then really bring my new set of knowledge to the next grow!

Be careful the black gold I thought I was helping my self with was rather basic as in ph above a 7 not ideal for canabis and it hold quite a bit of moisture I got into fox farm quick it’s just so easy for beginners

@fano_man I couldn’t agree more. I’m essentially using this BlackGold mix because it’s literally the only organic non-miracle grow brand that was available in my area.

Once this first grow is complete I’ll be switching exclusively to Fox Farms soil (via Amazon.com)

The long-term solution is to eventually produce my own soil using this recipe.

And ur in a 4 foot tent so u must keep your plant small or they will get to close to your light

@fano_man exactly!

The hope is next year to move to a place with a dedicated greenhouse or barn where I can really expand to 5/6 plants and do this whole process the “right” way. This first round it to really just learn, and absorb all of the information until that time comes.

Well I can tell you dont learn to super crop and or top or fim your plants you want them to grow <–>

Tuesday, October 15th 2019 - Day 29

Well, I’m not exactly sure what’s going on. I’ve had a string of bad luck it seems. Plant 1 of 3 was eaten by a rabbit - so I’m down to two plants.

These last two plants feel like they’re stalling out - I’m not noticing any new growth, the tops of the plants look ‘burnt’, like the leaves are tiny, white, and frayed.

Additionally, I’m seeing a LOT of discoloration. Any help with solving this would be great.

@Myfriendis410 can u post the support ticket for this nice gentlemen to fill out so we can see what’s going on looks like a deficency starting while u have a n tox almost so it looks like it could be a ph thing but fill out the ticket my friend posts and and we’ll go from there

Current state of plants in natural light:

The leaves are all showing signs of yellowing, and the tops of the plants, the leafs all seem to have singed ends?

Singed ends can be nutrient burn but your plant looks happy and healthy. Lighter green is normal for new growth.

Pretty girl.

That plant is experiencing a lockout from ph I’ll bet since you sont know of ph of dirt , your nutes. Tyour water to start your runoff you should be checking all these once ina while nutes should he shed everytime if needed and it’s good to do a slurry test on yo ur dirt… so I suggest u order or go to home depot depot and or hydroponic store and get a ph up and down kit with reagent tested for 14 $ at my local hydro storenu can atleast check your water nutes and running off with that… they have there powder capsule ph reagent testers at home depot but that’s if your on a tight budget it will get you through …chemical reations being the color it changes is always accurate to back up digital meters with to know for peice of mind…they have 35 to 40 dollar digital pens but still good to back up with chemical test for ph atleast… ppm meters I have a 20 dollar hanna primo works great never needs calibrating and ppms are a little more rough guideline then ph ph needs to be spot on

You dont see the slight claw on the right of the plant while its showing deficency of some sort

Saturday, October 26th 2019 - Day 40

I thought I would provide a brief update. Funny enough the plant that was all but devoured by rabbits is still growing and forming small buds:

I’m going to let that plant continue, as it’s been fun to see it survive in the face of outdoor adversity.

However, I still feel like I’m having issues with my remaining two indoor plants. I brought them outside today to take pictures in natural light. The leaves look to be yellowing on all the edges, and (to me) the plants seem to be staling out. I just assumed I’d be seeing as much pistoling as the outdoor plant:

Any recommendations as to what’s happening, and how to prevent more yellowing?

Your plant definitely looks better compared to some of my plants I’ve grown. More crops under your belt, the better you get. I didn’t join here till the end of Sept 2019 and I’ve already been growing since May 2018.

Lots of great info on this site.
