Female plant anatomy

Disclaimer: im still very new to all this so i apologize if this comes off like a stupid question, or if my information is incorrect.

If im to understand everything ive been reading about mj plants, the calyx is where the bud grows, and this is different from the pistils. The pistils are what catch the pollen, which in turns pollinates the bract.

As far as im aware the pistil serves 3 purposes: a) identifying sex, b) polination, c) aiding in determining harvest time.

If my information is correct, could we then cut off every pistil to prevent pollination, and theoretically sterilize the plant?

I highly doubt it …I think the process of pistols are very important to growers for the reasons you mentioned already …

The theory is good. But I don’t think the plant would give the results you would expect

I think i may have to try it one day and see what happens, just for the fun of it lol

The pistils just say when to start watching trichomes. When they go from white to amber to dark brown and recede into the flower. Start looking at the trichomes. I used to think pistils determine when the plant was done. Which is false.

I don’t make that blunder no more. :+1::+1::+1:

Calyx /bract very close to same.
Most folks call the Bract a calyx.

I had not seen the 2nd pic. Thats a good one. Be cool if someone figured out how to render them ineffective. Wouldnt need to worry about unwanted pollination again.

That would be thousands of tiny incisions to make… Sound theory though.

All these white hairs are pistils. That’s a lot of cutting @ExoFly lol love the enthusiasm though

Lol yea im in my first grow and the pistils are starting to pile up. When i posted this there were like 2 per node haha

Maybe a small filter bag, that allowed air to pass through, but not pollen and nodes or the entire plant could be wrapped…

Its an interesting topic though…maybe some day accidental pollination will be a thing of the past.

The filter thing sounds possible. Yeah its an intriguing thing to think about…

Never really been a problem for me. Just learn to identify males and hermies and remove from grow space before they pollinate the females.

The idea spawned because i wanted to keep my hermie. Lol
