Disclaimer: im still very new to all this so i apologize if this comes off like a stupid question, or if my information is incorrect.
If im to understand everything ive been reading about mj plants, the calyx is where the bud grows, and this is different from the pistils. The pistils are what catch the pollen, which in turns pollinates the bract.
As far as im aware the pistil serves 3 purposes: a) identifying sex, b) polination, c) aiding in determining harvest time.
If my information is correct, could we then cut off every pistil to prevent pollination, and theoretically sterilize the plant?
The pistils just say when to start watching trichomes. When they go from white to amber to dark brown and recede into the flower. Start looking at the trichomes. I used to think pistils determine when the plant was done. Which is false.
I had not seen the 2nd pic. Thats a good one. Be cool if someone figured out how to render them ineffective. Wouldnt need to worry about unwanted pollination again.
