I just started a few seedlings, Gorilla Glue Auto Flower seeds… I used Gardner’s Gold Potting Soil… straight. Just that. It is not as good as Fox Farm’s or Happy Frog potting soil, I assume. I got some Triple Phosphate type fertilizer, 0-47-0, and put one little granual of that stuff in each little seedling pot the other day, about half or less of what they say to use…
I also got some other fertilizer that is 16-16-16. I sprouted my seeds in wet paper towels, and planted them in the potting soil almost 2 weeks ago. Should I use a little of the triple 16 around the seedlings now? Or will that burn them, or maybe even kill them? They seem to need a little something!!! Not growing very fast, if Bergman says they should be ready to harvest in 10 weeks!!! lol That is only two months from now!!! They are in a green house, but it has not been very sunny some days lately… I have not read of anyone using that kind of “old school” fertilizer on their pot plants on here!!! Is it not good to use on pot plants??? If not, why is that, and what would be good to do now? Don’t really have time to order stuff from this site for this grow, but want to get some seeds… from here next grow, I think! Please Help!!! lol Thanks!!!
Don’t use any fertilizer on seedlings. They should have at least 4 sets of leaves before using fertilizer. When I do start feeding, I use half of the recommended amounts the first 2 feedings then move it up to full strength over the next 2 feedings @heybudletsparty
Ok… Thanks a lot!!! They do have this seedling fertilizer on this site… Too late for me to get that now though… Maybe I should just order some of that Happy Frog Potting Soil next time then? I read that is good for seedlings? And I read the Fox Farm’s Potting Soil, (aka FFOF), is too hot for seedlings? Any suggestions on good fertilizer u like to use once plants have the 4 sets of leaves!!! Is that 16-16-16 soundin good, and maybe a little of the triple Phosphate? Saw this Humbolt Secret something or other, fertilizer stuff for all kinds of veggies, plants, trees…, and pot too I guess, that some said was amazing on Amazon…? Low Nutrient numbers on that stuff though, i think… Or perhaps Fox Farms nutrients are real good for pot plants? Or maybe the nutrients sold on this site are worth the price? Any suggestions on best nutrients to use for growing in soil??? Thank u very much again for the help!!!
I use General Hydroponics trio of nutrients myself. All of the nutrients out there get the job done quite well if you follow their recommendations. My nutrients work out to something like 8-5-5 in veg and 5-15-15 in flower. I use fox farm light warrior for seedlings. Especially auto flowers because they are so easy to stunt their growth. I mix my own soil using Fox Farms Ocean Forest as a base. I have pretty good success with it @heybudletsparty
hmmm. Interesting!!! I read that FFOF POTTING SOIL was too hot for seedlings? Never had any problems like that with it? Or maybe u do something to it? Cut it with some other soil??? Thanks for the advice!!!
They have this seedling nutrient for sale on this site, and even said to start it after the first week!!! I thought that sounded kinda dangerous!!! Hmmmmm
I amend my soil with bone meal, perlite, and dolomite lime.
For seedlings I use a mix of soil from the previous grow on top (which is fairly leached out) and the amended soil on the bottom. I start my seeds in h2o.
Yea, that FFOF POTTING SOIL, has gotta be way better than that stuff I could get, and would make my seedlings grow way faster, I bet!!! Dang!!! Weird that one guy said it was too hot for his seedlings one time…
Many people say ffof is hot. It kind of is for seedlings. Depending on how sensitive they are.
I’ve grown plenty in straight out of the bag soil, But since I started mixing it with old soil there’s less reaction from sensitive strains
Oh ok… Good idea’s!!! I see now!!! Thanks again!!! for the advice!!! Do u know if Gorilla Glue Auto Flowering plants are sensitive? Hopefully the opposite? lol I think I will get some ffof potting soil for some 4 gal. pots, and then maybe mix it with some of the Gardner’s Gold, and then put the seedlings, that are in little peat pots, in that… Either that or get some Super Soil and mix the Gardner’s Gold with that… Mostly towards the bottom for the Super soil, if I use that…? Sound ok? Maybe I should use all 3, and put the Super Soil mix near the bottom third? lol I am clueless!!! thanks again!!!
I start with seedling soil that has no nutrients in it at all then when time to transplant I use promix which also has no nutrients if using fox farm layer your soil putting fox farm on the bottom 1/2 pot and promix or seedling soil on the top so the plants can mature and grow into nutrient enriched soil a good safe nutrient for starting out with I would use technaflora recipe for success I agree seedlings don’t give anything but ph water for couple wks chk out the bible free download I read couple of times before I even started and use some bag seeds for testing
I’ve sprouted and grown many plants in Ocean Forest with no problems. Yes; it is hot and you could have a strain that is particularly sensitive and cause problems. Many layer the soil; Happy Frog on top and Ocean Forest below. Or coco or Promix on top. I start my seedlings in a media like coco and transplant once the first leaves (cotyledons) start to yellow. IMO you won’t need to feed your plants at all until flower and maybe not even then! If your plant looks happy, keep on that track. As to your slow seedling growth: it could be putting out a taproot now or there could be an issue that is slowing it down. The first off the top of my head would be over watering. Pictures would certainly help…
Oh, over watering can slow down growth? Maybe I do over water some times then? Like today was really sunny for a bit and I watered them thinking it would stay like that and get hot in the green house…, and then the sun disappeared the rest of the day. They do look real good, just seem kinda small for 2 weeks in the soil… Just 2 sets of jagged leaves so far really, and the little round first ones, of course…, and one plant is quite a bit bigger than the other 2… Did exactly the same thing with all three so far. Biggest one is maybe 1 1/2 inches tall only. Less than 2 inches for sure! Is that small for 2 weeks in the soil, after germinating in wet paper towels??? Not tons of sun these 2 weeks though… Some, but not a lot… Don’t have a smart phone for putting pics on here… Thanks for the help!!!
Hi again, SKGROWER had mentioned that something might stunt auto flowering plants growth…, I was just wondering what might stunt auto flowering plants growth? Mine do seem kinda small and growing slowly…, to me… Only about one and a half inches tall or so, so far, and that is the biggest one, Maybe one and three quarter inches tall at the most…! Not tons of sun here the two weeks they have been in the soil though…
Does anyone know what SKGROWER meant might stunt the growth of auto flowering seedlings like my Gorilla Glue seedlings??? Or anything that might make them grow slowly or be stunted??? Is’nt 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches tall small for 2 weeks and 1 day since I put the germinated seeds with tap roots in the soil??? Even if it has not been too sunny here during that time??? Over watering??? That is not what he was talking about though…
All the same things that can stunt a photosensitive plant. The difference with an auto is that you can’t just veg longer. The plant will flower when it wants.
Well, I have not grown pot in a really long time… So, I have never grown these auto flowering plants before… Was hoping to get a crop in before it gets too far into fall… So, that is what worries me. Seems to me like I really need them to grow as much as possible, as quick as possible, before they get to the flowering stage, because they will shift into flowering stage pretty soon no matter how big or small they are. Right??? To get the most buds… If they were not auto flowering plants, and it was April or May, I would not be too worried about it… There would be plenty of time for them to get big before they start to flower…
1 inch to 1 1/2 inches tall is small for 2 weeks and 1 day in the dirt/soil outdoors, (or in a green house setting in my circumstance)??? Right? Even it has not been very sunny, but it has warm during the day in there, or even hot and sunny a couple days??? Thanks for the help!!! And suggestions…!!!
