Fan leaves are Huge!

I have HUGE fan leaves bigger than my hands on my Chocoloupe. I’m wondering if I should remove a few so the light will get to the bottom???

No, you should not.

I would leave them be. You won’t get much off the bottom. The plant hasn’t flowered.

Thank You! This is my first time growing “regular” plants, I usually grow Auto’s. Another question: Why do all my Auto’s look spinly? Not just this grow but Always. This is my 5th grow since 2017. Thanks for your support!

What light do you have, and where are you hanging it? How large is your tent?

What was the strain and source of the auto seeds that stretched?

There are a few reasons plants can stretch, but it usually comes down to light and genetics.

This auto started off with a few of her leaves having some kind of deficiency. I’m keeping an eye on her.

No tent just spare room. Usually grow White Widow Auto’s from Bergman’s.

It’s highly unlikely that the manufacturer actually sells a 2000w light. The brightest individual fixtures on the market only draw around 700watts.

What happens is that import manufacturers add up the maximum input wattage of all the chips (even though the LEDs would burn out in minutes at that wattage) and they advertise the lights that way. 100 chips at a max 10w each is 1000 watts, right? And it’s bogus because they really run them closer 1 watt or less. And they use inefficient bargain chips.

If you have a Kill-a-watt or can borrow one, that will tell you how many watts your fixture draws. My guess is you’re closer to 100 watts, if that. Watts (input) isn’t the right way to measure photovoltaic flux (output), but we can use it to make educated guesses. From there we can guess how many square feet of canopy you can support in flower.

If you can figure out how much your flower is worth to you (what you’d spend on flower if you had to buy it) that can help you justify a better light, as well as a tent. I’m a fan of tents because they help maximize the number of photons hitting your plant, and also help you regulate the environment.

There’s a lot of options out there. I’d ask myself how much cannabis I need on a monthly basis, and develop a budget from there.

This is all assuming you want to fix the stretching, and probably get better yield per watt (the reason we should care about watts, IMO).

Unfortunately I live in TN and it’s still illegal!! I have looked at tents but I don’t know if it blows out the smell??? I’ve possed that question many times online but never could get the answer. I honestly don’t think I can afford a different system. I’ve already changed the lights three times now, probably what could have been spent on better lights by now.

Not in your case, but in legal areas people use tents to contain and filter the smell. Even in Colorado, people use tents in combination with carbon air filtration to neutralize the smell.

When you do buy the tent get an appropriate sized fan & charcoal filter for the tent, it will take most if not all the smell out. You should be thinking of this before bloom time. Most everyone seems to like the AC Infinity line of fans I bought one & agree with the others.

So, it would Not blow the odor out? I drove to Colorado a couple of times and stocked up on products but had to sell my RV, unfortunately. I’m on a budget now so here I am, lol
You’ve been extremely helpful, Thanks!! I’m sure I’ll have more questions and hopefully I’ll get You!!

Thanks, I’ll look into that

I’ve used an AC infinity Raxial 4” fan and a Vanleno 4” carbon filter without issue; however, my ambient temperature was 40f, and I can’t guarantee that particular fan will be adequate if you need lots of cooling. But it was more than adequate for air-exchange and odor elimination.

Bare with me. Do I have to get a hole drilled in my roof? I’ve heard some people put the exhaust through a window

Any suggestions on a complete grow tent? Also, I’m curious how plants get light since the inside seems so tiny

Some people will vent out of their building because that’s their solution to keep heat and/or humidity down. Every building should have a degree of passive air exchanges per hour, and that should be enough to keep CO2 levels high enough to support photosynthesis. When a grower uses a tent, they need to bring CO2 into the tent, and the easiest way to do that is to ventilate the tent into the room it’s already in.

Look at any of the tent journals on here and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I just had an epiphany after smoking my own medicine and going over what you’ve explained to me! The lights are the Reason why my buds have/are so Light!!! I’ve had a few people mention that and that it doesn’t have that strong fragrance either. The high is good but Could be better. Well now, I’m in a pickle. I’m feeling defeated

The lights with the lowest upfront cost are High Pressure Sodium. 600w and 1000w lights are actually fairly efficient, and 1000w double ended lights are the most efficient (if the heat isn’t an issue for you.)

600w HPS lamps will cover a 3’x3’ - 4’x4’ tent. That’s a good fit for most growers. A tent should be less than $100.

I have a question about the size of grow tents: How many plants can you have?? They all look so small. Would a 2x2 work for just 1 plant or two, three? You see I’m not very savy, lol… And Thanks again!
