First grow here.
On advice of folks in this forum, I’m using 7 gallon fabric pots with ProMix HP.
How do you handle the runoff? Right now I have them on saucers, but they overflow easy, and then there’s a mess.
Pictures, advice, wisdom all gratefully accepted.
I use plastic bins under my fabric pots and use wet dry vac for runoff I grow in a closet w carpet so don’t want to drench carpet mold will eventually appear
I use a small homemade rack with wire mesh on it. Slide my pan under catch run off. Let my pot stop dripping then return plant to tent.
@kellydans - what do you do when the pot gets too big to move? I am thinking about what happens when I get the trellis up for scrogging…?
I use 7 gallon fabric pots and when wet they’re pretty heavy. I don’t use Nets, I do spread and pull my plants out for better light penetration. as mentioned some people use Shop-Vac to pull out the excess water.
I just do this. May need a larger one for 7 gal pots.
Also with cloth pots, I’ve found that if you spray the outside of the pot and get the sides wet before watering, less water runs out the sides.
This may be a silly question but do you guys reuse your runoff water?
Mine gets thrown in the yard or in my outdoor garden.
To help keep my water in the bag, I start with 1-2 liter for each plant. Water in a circle and give it 5 min. The water will trickle down and the dirt will lose its repelling power as the neg ions engage with the water. After 5 min you can give it a good gallon or whatever you need slowly and it should soak down without running out the sides. I would also elevate them on a rack with plastic bin lids to catch the overflow. You will need them for sure if you plan to flush the soil ever.
@BobbyDigital. Where did you find those racks?
They were just some metal racks that I got at Home Depot many years ago and cut up.
@BobbyDigital thank you! I am try to McGiver up something because the gals are getting to big to carry to the kitchen sink for watering.
That was my chore for the day build some better racks. You just gave me a great methods to do that, thank you.
Well Thank you TokerGuy I decided to put my 5 gal fabric bags on a one of those wire shevles you buy at Home Depot I had in the basement. I have Tupperware totes like the ones you put under your bed I have three in the bottom of the tent and the wire rack fits across so I can have three bags across. So when I water or feed it goes thru the soil then, drips down into the trays which I can wet vac up and then I can use that outside on the big grower in the box. I saw someone out here using a rack.
I am finding stuff I have bought years ago I can now use to help us grow.
They are beautiful !!! Congratulations!!!
