You may have over dried, but you can put in jars about ½ full with a few fresh leaves, overnight, if you still have them. Orange peel is used also, since there are lots of strains with a citrusy scent already. Small piece of lettuce. Point being, you can rehydrate and bring the moisture content back up some.
I typically jar at 65% or so. Your rh during first dry should stay 55-65% in drying area. May have overdried. Under 55% cure ceases. I burp till 60-62% then once a week. This has 90 days on it and still at 60. I prefer a little wetter…55+…over drier personally. Drying is as important…maybe more…as any part of grow. I like slow. Almost no air…just enough to move it.
Here is a suggestion for new growers. WEDRYER is a drying system i bought. Get the XL. Sealed…airflow from bottom out top. Carbon filter.
Hang anywhere an outlet. I wet trim all buds. Stick in dryer. Move around 2 times a day for 5-6 days. Huge buds 1 or 2 days longer. Works PERFECT. I actually cured 10 oz or so on vacation. Hung it in van.
If anyone gets 1 GET THE XL!!! I got the s1…it is great but too small i think.
This is not for everyone especially ttaditionalists but these things really work. They take all the stress out. I jar after 5 days…watch humidity. If still up 1 day back in and check again. Once under 55 just smoke it. Cure window is about done. Can remoisture for smoking but curing finished. Just my opinion…wrong probably but why be right and shock the wife. She prefers to think I am stupid. Married 34 years so maybe…lol.
I’m having same problem…my lowest jar is at 55%. My understanding that the bovida 62% will eventually raise it?
I have set the open jars by a humidifier this morning till they hit 61%. Then capped them…they have dropped slightly…planed to do this again.
Am I beating a dead horse?
If you can get one of these, jam the probes to the stem of the buds. 10-12% is what to shoot for, then jar. This is a little better way to dial in on when to jar. I am getting one before my next harvest, as I had to chunk almost a half z off moldy bud, in Grove bags, too which have mold prevention properties. Stems snapped, outside of bud was slightly crisp, but every bud in 2 of the bags was moldy at the main stems.
If it’s too dry, they’re salvageable. If it’s too moist, dry a little longer.
I haven’t used one yet, but what I’ve read of other growers experience using them is good.
Crispy edges with smallest stems cracking is what you want. When you put it in a air tight container leaving 25% room for air it will pull the higher moisture out of the center of the bud to make your jar even. This is how curing works and where burping comes in. Since this process still needs to breathe and exchange gas the first week. But it also needs to stay closed and air tight for 12 ish hours to begin. Can be burped more often if too high after the initial sealing. This is what I have found works best.
Great information people! Is overly dried bud smokeable? Does it hurt the THC? In general, what is the downside to the weed I’ve already harvested that is excessively dried too much?
2nd - I put 3 or 4 fresh leaves in the jar to moisten the air in it as was suggested… and am now so pleased to see the humidity went up in the jar from 46% to 59% overnight.
98 grams for 2 plants dried, cut and jarred this far. About 3.4 oz.
I am more than a happy camper… especially given my initial goal was 1) try to not kill all 4 plants (please Lord have at least 1 survive) then 2) if you get at least one plant to harvest, try to get at least 1 oz.
Way to go @VirginiaGrowBoy that is a heck of a haul! Nothin like enjoying your own homegrown. I agree, this forum is the best thing ever for the new grower.
Again, I’m not yet into getting 99.9% of potential yield yet like some of these great growers… I just wanted a crop that lived… and I got it!
As a sidenote, my next door neighbor is also growing inside and he called me over to look at a problem.
I was able to help him diagnose and in the meantime found he was doing multiple things wrong which I was able to help him. I actually gave him some nutrients and pH adjust. He is new to it in Virginia where growing was just legalized, but I followed people on this board and that made a huge difference!
