My grow tent is at 70RH. My plant is just sprouting so I know the RH is ok right now but in the future may be an issue, if I was to get a dehumidifier, should I place it in the grow room or outside? It is 32x32x63 with a 6" exhaust fan and a passive intake…I do also have a small oscillating fan that will go in there as well…thoughts??
Depends on a few things if you have room in tent then sure but if not it is going to have to be outside the tent. Also depends where the tent is and what kind of room. For instance I am running a dehumidifier in my shed which in turn my tent is in shed and it is dropping the humidity in both the tent and shed. I have no room in my tent so I opt for the outside of tent. I have had it running the past 2 days and has worked like a charm. I will see when I get home today.
@Smokin_ernie I should have plenty of room for a small dehumidifier. I just wasn’t sure if the exhaust fan will replace the air faster than the dehumidifier can work so in essence it ends up being a waste…if that makes sense…
I would think placing it in the tent might not amount to much depending on the size since your exhaust will be pulling in new air constantly.
Might make sense to get a larger dehumidifier and place it outside to get the humidity down outside the tent so that the exhaust fan will pull in less humid air.
That is how I have mine setup anyway and seems to work pretty well, but I only grow indoors during the winter months so for the most part my issue is raising the humidity not decreasing it. Between the winter and the wood stove we use the humidity stays pretty low.
@dmykins
I use a whole room dehumidifier so it’s not an issue for me, but I’ve seen Utube vids where the DH was on the outside of the tent and the tent’s intake was duct taped to the DH exhaust so that dry air was fed right into the tent
@hillbilly103 - What happens when the humidity level is decreased to the set point and the DH shuts off. The intake will be sucking from a ‘dead source’.
Instead of a dehumidifier get a bigger exhaust fan, maybe 8 in centrifical force. I have a 6 in in the same tent and maintain 45-50 percent rh. And that’s my flower tent.
I have had good results with a whole room DH inside my tent. If you have the room. I adapted it with some duct and ducting to exhaust the heat OUT of the tent. I have been able to get humidity down to as low as 40% and usually only have to empty the DH water tank once a day. I also use the same DH in the room the tent is in, to keep humidity in the room low (its in a basement where I alway have to use a DH.)
So I checked this morning and all three have sprouted. I will continue to mist them with water until they grow a bit bigger. The humidity is killing me. It was 76% this am…I think I am going to try to use DampRid from Home Depot until I decide on a dehumidifier.
@dmykins
Ok place dehumidifier out side grow room or tent and allow the dry air there pulled in that will be the most efficient way to run the dehumidifier
If you put it in tent or grow room with exhaust while pulling humid air into tent the dehumidifier will never shut off since air will constantly be pulled out and replaced with moist air
@Countryboyjvd1971 thanks for the input. I am going to look into a dehumidifier tonight. You guys are awesome.
