Defoliation do's and don't

Is it ok to remove leaves that are connected to bud sites? Also is it ok to remove upper leaves that are blocking lower bud sites? First time trying to maximize a small space.

Fan leaves/sugar leaves don’t connect to bud sites. They connect directly to the branch they’re on. Yes, they can be removed. The question is should they. Do you have a pic of your plant? I usually only defóliate to gain air movement through the plant.

As you can see in the first pic there’s alot going on and i try to tuck as much as possible up top but they always spring back up. A lot of leaves blocking bud sites underneath

Yes, a defol will do you well. First, strip everything below your canopy (about the bottom 1/3rd of the plant). Then start stripping some of the larger fan leaves that are covering your canopy.

:pray::pray: THANK YOU GUYS! I really appreciate it

Yes it does will help your lower bud sites like advised some off bottom the rest to open bud sites and allows better air flow

I pick most off with my fingers. Just yank or pinch them off. I use the trimmers for branches that won’t make it to the canopy.
