CRISPER, Pandoras Box or just the new coloidal silver?

CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) Is a therm given to a fairly new gene manipulation technology, that lets you cut out part of one geneome and insert it into another genome.

Recently someone brought to my attention that there are DIYkits for crisper experiments at home.

CRISPER DIY set

What do people here think about that?

Never thought of it for using it for plants, I’ve been messing with my wife about getting her COVID 19 shot tho!

It’s was also made using crisper and I’ve been telling her the side effects she’s feeling (tired , blurred vision, nausea, and unbalanced) were from it changing her DNA sequence to be covid resistant

This would be amazing to be able to not only get the phenotypes we’re looking for but to also know these are the exact same plants we want!

Another reason to setup the lab!

I want to be able to compare and save strain dna I’ve enjoyed growing.

Mate your short on fantasy :hugs: I’m more thinking about THCorn or TomaTops :joy:

Changing your DNA sequence dose not sound very appealing…
No thanks…
Might be cool for plants… maybe…with something like that , how would you be able to determine the outcome…?
Shot in the dark I guess… :man_facepalming::man_shrugging::thinking::+1:

Make your personal strain introducing your own dna into the plant😉

There was this guy that made a method to code text into dna and write it on an apple seed, i think it was genesis… Can’t find the article now, but while searching found this

Guy inserting DNA holy texts

Funny how media reports are religious geeks having a personal fascination with a technology that kind of undermines their belive systems… :man_shrugging:

I know you are kidding but, unfortunately over 20% of the US population say yep that is what I heard too.

You watch the Netflix doc on CRISPR?

Guy injects himself to have more muscles without needing to workout as much… didn’t look like it worked

Another guy injects himself to be able to see in the dark… looked like crazy blacked out contacts… I don’t know if any of it is actuality or just for entertainment

I really just like to record dna from a clone and then when I raise another to that point also take it dna and see how they resemble each other.

Then do the same with their related parent strains and see how they got to be the way they are.

I think it’s pretty awesome just to be able to study and learn about this. Doubtful I’d ever be able to utilize it in the long run but it’s exciting to dream about

Alright so if I’m reading correctly you can take any plant and make it resistant to known issues.

Non gmo effect include but not limited to

  • pest resistance
  • mold resistance
  • disease resistance
  • size : height

If you start adding other dna into your plants you have the ability to then be raided by the feds which GMO plants are regulated by the FDA

Well… one might argue, I’m bigger, more pest and mold resistant, than my plants so all my actions introducing my dna into the plant were aimed at these goals… :sunglasses:

Which is quite a feet, I mostly settle with, being one with myself…

I have it lingering somewhere but didn’t watch it so far.

Don’t you have to sequence the dna of all the studied plants, figure out what sequence of dna determines the trait you are trying to change, then use crisper to cut the sequence from a plant with desirable traits and replace the same sequence in the dna of the plant you want to change?

Sounds simple.

I’ll act like I never saw this :no_mouth:

That is true
It’s, as stated above, a blind shot.

I have a suspicion about these DIY kits, you know how game developers have started to release buggy games letting the customer fix the last bugs, the sheer complexity of these modern games makes it impossible to cover all possible scenarios in house. But with millions of people playing, you have them fixed in no time…
Maybe they try to do the same with these kits, no need to pay highly educated professionals if it basically is stumbling in the dark…

I guess if they do all the sequencing and all you do is cut in a “packaged” trait into the dna of a plant you are growing I suppose it might work.
