What in the world is going on here? The other two plants in the RDWC system are fine, with big, long healthy roots.
EC is 1.4
Ph is 5.6 and I’ve been keeping it steady.
Water temp 69F to 72F at the most
Plants are about a month from germination
Strawberry Kush
This plant in particular developed a nitrogen deficiency, which I fixed by upping PPM and foliar feeding for one week.
How much of an air gap do you have between the bottom of the net pot and your water/solution?
Kinda appears that they are not being encouraged to grow down. That’ why I was asking about air gap, needs to be at least an inch and a half to two inches. Is this the first tote in your system? Sometimes the first tote maintains a higher water level? Need to know more about your system
I’m tuned to watching. I will try to help you figure it out. Hard to tell but, when I blow the picture up, it looks like the net pot would be setting right at or in the water/solution. Like I said, I would need a little more info
Personally I would lower the water level to a minimum of 2" below the net pot. I am no expert and don’t claim to be. My understanding is that the roots are not growing down because they don’t have to. In my opinion they are growing until they reach the water/solution and then expanding as they normally do. High water/solution levels will eventually cause you more problems. Just my opinion from what I have learned. My water/solution is touching the bottom of my net pots when I first put seedlings in, because I don’t top feed and encourages downward root growth. As soon as the roots start coming out of the bottom of the net pot, I start lowering the water/solution levels until I get at least to the 2" mark below the bottom of the net pot. Just my understanding and how I do it
Keep me up to date as to how it’s going. If that doesn’t work, which I am thinking and hoping that it will, we will take a better look and see if we can figure out what else to do. I think that this may solve your problem though
I have a feeling it will. It makes sense. I spent well over a year studying this forum before I bought my stuff and built my system. I played through different scenarios in my head. I thought I had it all figured out. But now that I finally got started, at every little problem I’m like “Duuhhhhh…” Lol. I think growing is a constant learning experience. A little experience sure did pop my arrogance bubble, that’s for sure! It’s fun though. And more interesting than anything else I’ve ever done.
So I just scooped water out of my res until it looks like a 2" air gap between the pots and water line. I’ll update with pics tomorrow.
Brother, I have been growing weed outdoors since the mid 70’s, just started this indoor thing last November. I will always consider myself a noob. I’m always learning something. I did a powerful amount of research myself before I built my first system.
