Couple quick questions

Gonna plant some GDP autos in the next day or two. My 1st couple questions are in soil preparation. I’m got some fox farms ocean floor and perlite. Just gonna do 20-30% perlite and the rest as is. When filling the pot do I need to add any water or is it good to use right outta the bag? Next the perlite do I moisten it prior to mixing? Been looking around and not sure I’m searching for the answer properly. Thanks for any help. Noob question I’m sure.

20-30% perlite is pretty good starting point. Find a cup or scooping device reasonable to the size of pot you’re using, then do 1 scoop perlite to 3 scoops soil. Should give you a 25% perlite blend.

There is no law stating perlite needs to be rinsed that I’m aware of. But some bags do seem kinda dusty. Rinse or not at your discretion. As far as wetting down pot you have to be careful when starting seeds. Some moisture is fine, but not a lot. If you were transplanting you would water in afterwards.

Depends if your soil is bone dry or still moist if its bone dry I start with half of max ( for 5 gallon that’s usually 1/2 gallon so I give 1/4) if its decently moist I’d give them 1/4 of max to be safe

Thanks for response. When you say maximum, are you saying that 1/2 gallon is a general max watering for a 5 gallon pot? I realize each plant is different but I like having a figure to kinda go off. Am I reading you right?

Roughly yes it depends on your medium (peat moss can hold 3/4) but 1/2 gallon is a pretty safe bet(and max is how much before runoff doesnt get reabsorbed in a hour)I always recommended watering to max but letting it dry mostly out starting 1 week in
