I put a seed on top of a 1/2 sheet of bounty paper towel. It was folded in half to make a square. I then placed another folded 1/2 sheet on top of that. I put this into a ziploc bag. The paper towels were soaked and then partially squeezed so they are still pretty wet. The general consensus is to close the ziploc bag to retain moisture so I did. I was looking for a warm place to put the bag and came up with placing it on top of my Dish TV receiver. It is a constant 85 degrees so seems ideal for germination. When I got up this morning the entire inside of the bag was covered with condensation from the heat. This won’t be an issue if the seed sprouts a tap root by this evening as that will be 24 hours. What should I do if it doesn’t sprout by then? The seed in a bowl of water method says not to let is soak for more than 24 hours. I am afraid the condensation is going to make it too wet in the ziploc bag. Should I leave the bag open after the 24 hr period? I just hope that won’t allow the paper towels to dry out too much due to the heat. Thanks.
I keep it simple I drop seeds in small cup of warm water for 24 hours. From there to the paper towel method in between two saucers sitting on the kitchen table will usually Sprout within 2 days. Some people will put a couple drops of peroxide in the cup of water. Personally, I’ve never needed too. Stick with what works best for you.
I have soaked seeds (that sprouted) for 7 days. As long as a bit of peroxide is added periodically it will remain fresh and sterile.
I’ve been testing different ways to germinate and the best I’ve found is to drop into shot glass of water cover and put in dark place for 2 days should show 1/2" to 1" tail sprouting then place in lightly damp soil 1 knuckle (1/2 to 1") deep in solo cups half full and cover with baggy. Give it 4or 5 days and you should be breaking ground. After about another week you can fill the cup the rest of the way with soil help keep it standing up good.
I checked my seed this morning at it has sprouted a tap root. So far so good. My first attempt and it sprouted the root after approximately 36 hrs. Maybe less since I didn’t get to check it until I got up this morning. I have now planted the seed in a small pot. Excited to see it break ground now.
